Forums - Microsoft - X720: Console exclusives don't exist

It may allow Microsoft more profit in software sales if they were to somehow do this but it would essentially be them stepping out of the hardware race entirely.

Think about it, why would you ever buy a 720 if ALL of the games could easily play on your PC?
You wouldn't, you would just buy a PS4 or possibly a wii for exclusives. and then some XBOX only games... but never a 720.

stupid.
they need reasons for people to buy a game console, and no matter how good the network becomes, or how many bells and whistles Microsoft throws at the console itself, GAMES are what sell the console. Games you can find only on that console.

I know some of you may think, "isnt that how it is now with the 360"? but that is somewhat irrelevant because at the earlier stages of this gen, Microsoft sealed a lot of timed exclusives.
It being the only console for Bioshock, Fallout, and Mass Effect. Games.

Maybe not everyone thinks the way I do though.. personally I would love to not be enticed into buying all 3 machines next gen. I already have a PC- so I will essentially have the 720 already at home if what this thread is indicating comes true!

Isnt the gaming industry about software not hardware? Ms will lose some gamers that choose pc and ps4. Although i do believe that in the longrun they will benefit. Pc gamers will be able to import all theor games to 720.. It might hurt 720 a bit, but it makes windows stronger.
Wimdows is still king of pc but mostly due to gaming. Steam is shifting towards apple. And other os's like webos mozilla? Google chrome will steal a little marketshare. Other services like office feel threatend by cloudcomputing. The furure isnt as easy as the past for ms.

I doubt it, but that would be amazing for me because I prefer mouse/keyboard controls for games like Gears, Fable and Halo.

doubt it, one thing about MS is they rip people off where ever they can, there's no way they would make only having to buy one version and having it playable on both

I 2nd this, this is MS we're talking about, the same MS that charges gamers to play online. No way in hell will they pull a Portal 2 on their games.

MS knows this, its not a coincidence, that we no longer see, Gears, Halo or Alan Wake on PC anymore. THey need a reason for people to buy the console, otherwise why bother making it

You make the asumption everyone lkes PC gaming. I know manythat dont. Me included. I have a PC that could easily run most of todays games. But dont like using it for gaming. I like my gaming seperate from my PC use.

i was under the impression that this pretty much already happened with the 360 launch, and then Microsoft started canceling PC versions to push the console.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

then again I've always considered it exclusive by brand not by platform........ so to me what runs on windows or XBox is the same... an MS exclusive.....it'd be stupid for MS to sign a deal with a 3rd party for a game just for one of the 2 platfroms.... same goes for 1st party.... why limit your profit when you can have it on both and make more.... since an XB is a PC at the end of the day.... I don't see why it is so hard for gamers to get that idea accross..... I've never seen sony or nintendo limiting a franchise to one of their platform the only reason you don't have the same mario on Wii and DS is because of hardware limitation that's it... same goes for PSP and PS..... in the case of MS they can have the same on both why bother do two..... so yeah to me it is exclusive to MS regardless if it is on both PC and XB

Not sure that's gonna happen. Microsoft would have to go with an AMD or Intel based CPU and I don't see that happening right now.

Imo MS goal is not to sell as many consoles as the other two but to have people subscribe to Xbox Live. Their next platform will be Windows. PC/Console/Phone/Tablet will only be another window to look at the same content. If you don't want to buy a console fine, play on PC, don't have time for PC then play on Tablets it doesn't matter all you need is Live.

I could see games for PC/Consoles as they could share the same control system with Kinect/Controller then Phones/Tablet as they both share touch/gyroscope/camera.

In the long run MS wouldn't need to make Xboxes, third parties could do that just like PC/Phones/Tablets. Subscribe to Live and play with whatever device you want.
