Forums - Microsoft - X720: Console exclusives don't exist

Fable, Halo and Forza will release at the same time on X720 as on PC. Windows LIVE and Xbox LIVE will basically merge together. Both systems will have digital downloads. PC versions won't be sold at retail. Only X720 games can be bought at retailstores. (They can make an extra 10 bucks). Only one version will be needed to play your games on both systems, just like Portal 2 on Steam and PS3.

Anyone sees this happening?

Possibly. MS may make Windows 8 and Xbox extension, meaning only games with Xbox brand will run on PC. Also meaning Xboxs sales persay may not mean as much on sites like this. As MS may strategise Phones, PC and Xbox togther. Of which Sony and Nintendo will lose out heavily. For example MS own windows. MS own Xbox. If forza 5 for example sold 15 milion across the unified Xbox/windows platform it would still be classed as 1 solid first party title reaching more players than Sony. Essentially meaning MS have more gamers in total.

MS would not care how it gets the gamers, but how many it has in total.

I wonder i MS would ever buy out Steam or VAlve. IT certainly can with amazing ease.

doubt it, one thing about MS is they rip people off where ever they can, there's no way they would make only having to buy one version and having it playable on both

Actualy it the demographic doesnt cross over like you belive. many PC enthusiast gamers dont own cnsoles and vice versa dont own gaming rigs. It would actually save alot of development cash to make one version. Its more feesable than you think.

Even if they only made one version they'd still charge for it twice

Why?

The PC guy would pay £40 to have it. And the console guy would pay £40 to have it. instead of having to devolop 2 games and cost more develpment money to see the end result stay the same.

I don't think you understand, the OP said you would only have to buy one version to play either, even if it' the exact same code if someone wnated to play it on pc and xbox MS would charge them for each version

No, in fact I see the opposite. Halo went from a console/PC franchise to a console only franchise. Alan Wake for PC was also canned, and Gears of War never saw a PC iteration after the first game. Microsoft also published a lot of 360 only franchises. Forza, Lost Odyssey, Splinter Cell Conviction, etc.

The only game that still has PC connections is Fable, and I bet you the next franchise by Peter Moo will be console exclusive.

@Dragon_Lord
I do mean that you only have to buy one version to play it on both systems because you have one account on both systems.

@rollstoppable
From MS perspective they don't release a console exclusive. You are right when discussing console exclusives compared to other consoles of course those will still exist.

I know what he meant. The same disc could play on either. It would not hurt the profit. DEv costs would be down. It would be god business as PC gamers would pay for a copy anyway. Very few gamers own both gaminng rigs and consoles.
