Not really. And ramping up production by 50-100% right away would be careless. I don't think Nintendo are that stupid or arrogant.

@Mummelman: It would be stupid for them to double production when the demand is clearly there and they are losing a lot of potential sales right now? And you say that it's JL insulting our intelligence?
I love this, a thread dedicated to Johnlucas predictions is hijacked by the man himself.
*Metal Gear Solid 4 will NOT go to the PS3 (a prediction possibly seen as my craziest ever even past my Wii Fit one).
Its been delayed, there are rumors that it will go to 360 and PS3 software sales are not good. There is panic and concern around this apparent PS3 exclusive and its not the only title with similar concerns. Its not going to save Sony. This could be your jackmove, I believe several are coming with the market shift to Nintendo, the HD format war and slow PS3 sales.
MGS4 will go to PS3 (then 360, PC) but it will cost!
*Resident Evil 5 will see itself on the Wii.
Absolutely!!
Predictions
Chavez, Fidel Castro and Bush will become friends.
The Beatles will release a new CD.
Nintendo won't release any Mario game whatsoever.
Leo-j will loose his virginity.

LOL
- Alas, I predict you're wrong.
But for Leo-J sake I hope your not. I also predict he'll claim to have lost it already when he's back from his banning.
Well it's something I've been mulling over and isn't quite consequential so I'll go ahead JL it and put my name to it,
Capcom earns more profit off of RE4 for the Wii than it does off of RE5 for PS360.
My real expectation is that RE4:Wii and RE:UC earns more profit than RE5:360 and RE5:PS3 but I'll toss that to play along.

So I take it that you're working for the Nintendo marketing department and happens to know that the demand is over twice as big as supply? There are slow months in the year as well, another factor of many that would make this a stupid move. If people want the Wii, they'll get it when they can, Nintendo does not depend on having all their sales all at once like it's competitors. If you wait 6 months to buy it, you've still bought it, so you can't really say that Ninty lost money on you because you didn't buy it earlier, now can you? It's fairly simple really. In fact, it's in Nintendo's best interest to keep the interest burgeoning to maintain the demand.
@ Intelligence comment; there's a big difference, no one cares what I say but many go bonkers when JL grants them an audience, so it doesn't matter whether I'm wrong since it hardly costs me any credibility. Don't you agree?

Of course they lose money. A) Not everyone will get it later. B) They lose revenue off game sales. The longer you own a system the more games you're likely to buy for it. C) Nintendo's entire strategy is to attract new customers. Non-traditional gamers will not goto stores on a Thursday morning pre-openning hopeing they have stock in. They'll wait until it's on the shelves when it's convenient for them or until they lose interest in it. Not being able to have a supply on store shelves for more than a couple hours is definately losing money.

So, to sum up from what I've heard about the Wii; it will keep selling because people won't loose interest like I think (along with many others). But if you don't find it right away, you loose interest? Huh?! This is... confusing. If someone desperately want a Wii, they'll get it, and if they can't wait a while, they're not really that set on getting it in the first place imo which makes them weak customers to rely on for game sales longterm. I'm sorry, but that's what it seems like to me.

It's no different with any other system or product out there. If you couldn't find a PS3 on the shelves eventually you might opt for a 360 instead. If you can't find an Ipod, there's a lot of other MP3 players out there. Yes, many will wait, but not 100% which is why it's always best to have supply available.
