Forums - General - So, new Plasma TV!

Good choice.
But burnin is the main disadvantage of plasma, thus why they're not the best suited for games.
Anyway, if you bought the TV for HD, that means you want quality.
Quality means that you will have to calibrate your TV, as it's in the worst settings when you receive it.
Most of the time, the level of white and of black (I don't remember which one is erroneously called brightness or contrast, they are nothing like that though) have to be put way down.
The very first step is to put the light at the minimum level usually.
If you don't have any calibrating material (Avia media, probe, ...), you can go look at AVS forums, some people can give you advice, and even a starting setting for a perfect image (I don't remember the name of the standard used).

LCD ftw!! sorry but plasmas suck. They might have a slightly better picture but their downsides suck. Also they eat significantly more power then LCD.

Maybe now I'd agree but as time goes, energy saving + lcd quality increases. I think pretty soon the difference will be even more minimal. As of now LCD has a power consumption and the fact that they operate silently as an advantage Plasma has large sizes and more color support as it's advantage Each of these upsides are becoming more and more negligable. At a point LCD's could only manage 75% of the color of a tube or plasma TV now it's more like 95% on a good LCD. At the same time Plasmas used to use twice the energy they do these days(they still use a bit more than a tube TV) Seems with each generation the differences between the two mediums is becoming less and less..
