Forums - Gaming - Microsoft registers Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com

I would probably jizz if they collaborated on next gen consoles! A Sony-MS console would be amazing!

Sweet! I made at least one person laugh. Just popped in my head when I though about the two of them merging. Can't alienate either name as both brands are quite strong.

Just call it the Xbox 720 in the US and the Playstation 4 in EMEA and Japan. Then it would be unstoppable!

That would be perfect, no one would know the difference You could probably add the rest of North America, the U.K. and Australia to the Xbox 720 name.

You would be obligated to buy one of them even if you like the other brand better. That's not a great idea for the consumers.

Well Sony is pretty vulnerable to a sale right now and Ms has plenty of cash to burn

This obviously isn't gaming related, as their trade names for the gaming divisions and consoles are not used in it. Just their company names.

Microsoft, Apple, as well as Sony all banded together recently to buy 6000 patents at auction. Just because they are rivals in gaming industry doesn't mean they are in every industry, especially ones where they don't even compete or have close relationships.

To be honest, it's probably domain they are just sitting on. Never going to do anything with it other then owning it so no one else does.

Hmm, pie.

as long as microsoft makes the hardware.

Are you sure about that?  They didn't do too well this generation (in the beginning) making the hardware.  I'd rather Sony made the hardware and MS focused on Live and software dev kits - if the merger was to happen.  That's probably what would happen because Sony is an hw company while MS is a sw company.

OT - this is probably about Vaio and Windows since Sony and MS have had joint campaigns in the past in that industry.  Sony and MS aren't as big of enemies as their fanboys make them out to be.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

This would be awesome, but i doubt it is gaming related.

Almost certainly not gaming related I'd imagine. This will be to do with PCs, tablets and the like.

Although, with that said, it is worth remembering the the Xbox and the 360 only exist to function as a platform for MS's real concern which is the OS, DirectX and its software standards and for services like Live.

The margin on hardware is low and will always be a drag for MS's much more profitable software/services side. If, and that's a big IF, Sony were to agree to focus on the hardware, support MS OS and DirectX exclusively and partner on the service side then who knows?

Certainly I don't see MS truly wanting to manufacture hardware unless they have to. And with their stance on Windows mobiles - focus on software only - it would be quite the surprise if they and Sony decide to bury the hatchet on this gen and partner for the next.

Still sounds "pigs might fly" level speculation mind you... but it's not totally without merit.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Hilarious thread, 101% not gaming related Microsoft don't have the disposable capital to buy SCE and it would be foolish even if they did

It would just be weird if it was gaming related. I couldn't imagine Sony and Microsoft coexisting in a console environment after all the shit they've flung at each other down the years.

i dont think microsoft would get themselves into such a situation again where they feel its ok to release something like that(and i only had one problem with the 360 and none with the xbox).   whereas ive always had numerous problems with sonys consoles (on my 6th ps3 even, although no issues since i got the slim*knocks on wood*)
