They are both accurate but the move have little advantage because it incorporates more recent technologies.
The differences people feel is more about the game design than everything else. For sport champion they wanted the games to emulate as close as possible the real life sport. For wii sport ressort, they went for the "fun" way, not looking for the more accurate one but the funnier to play.
But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.
