Forums - PC Discussion - Carpe Fulgur - the people that brought you Reccetear To release Chantelise by the end of July

Carpe Fulgur is known to most of us as the company that localized Recettear for western release last year. Since then, Recettear has gone on to sell more than 140,000 copies. The company’s current ongoing project has been localizing Chantelise, another game developed by the same company. According to a bold announcement earlier today from Carpe Fulgur’s project manager Andrew Dice, “We’ll have Chantelise out by the end of the month or I’m a dead man.”

Chantelise is something of a spiritual predecessor to Recettear. Although Carpe Fulgur’s release of Chantelise will be coming this month, after the release of Recettear, Chantelise was actually first released by Japanese indie developer EasyGameStation in 2006, prior to the 2007 release of Recettear. Probably the most obvious thing that these two games have in common is the fact that the titles of the games are portmanteaus of two characters’ names, with Recettear being derived from the names of the characters Recette and Tear, and Chantelise’s name coming from the characters Chante and Elise.

Although Recettear and Chantelise share some assets, the two are radically different in terms of gameplay. While Recettear is a 2D action RPG where the focus is more on running an item shop than killing monsters, Chantelise is a more traditional action RPG that allows players to explore 3D environments.

A final price for Chantelise hasn’t been confirmed yet, although according to statements from Carpe Fulgur’s project manager Andrew Dice, the game will be “no lower than $10, but no higher than $15,” making it a tad less pricey than Recettear, which has been selling for $20 on online distributions services including Steam, GamersGate, and Impulse. (Recettear is currently on sale for $10 as part of Steam’s ongoing summer sale.)

Andrew Dice also announced Carpe Fulgur’s next project, which will be a localized release of Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone, a PC title from Japanese indie developer Lizsoft.
