It's wrong, it's pretty much impossible, which means it's a typo or a mistranslation. The google translated article made no sense at all, so that didn't help.

UTV Ignition Softworks had an operating loss of 75 million pounds from their gaming sector this year, the article screwed up, they mistranslated the info or they're taking the reported revenue loss and connecting it to El Shaddai because it's a new and upcoming release. It's a really shifty thing to do or they may be really stupid.

Ignition usually deal with extremely small and niche titles (Muramasa and Deadly Premontion are a couple of examples), I highly doubt they'd suddenly splurge more money than they've made on all their titles put together on a single game.

Also, just in case anyone's wondering, Ignition Entertainment isn't a Japanese company, they're a British company owned by an Indian communications company. Outside of the Final Fantasy games, no Japanese game cost any where near that much to develop this generation.

i also didnt believe this, this news has spiked my interest in the game though...

and havent Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 5 or even Gran Turismo 5 cost about the same as Final Fantasy 13. if so then i am shocked, i thought GT5 wouldve been more expensive tbh.

MGS4 we don't have a clear number on, but it's around the 45 to 50 million mark and it broke even on it's first day of release. The only number we have for GT5 is 60 million, which seems to fit and Resident Evi 5 cost the least at around the 30 million mark. Budgets are usually unclear, but the publishers and developers behind MGS4, GT5 and RE5 were all confident that they would  break even fairly close to release, Sqaure wasn't as confident, which leads me to believe that they spent a shit load on the game. Just for comparisons sake, they spent 30-35 on Final Fantasy XII, which is already much higher than most games released on the HD consoles this generation.

None of the games are near 120 million though, which is just impossible, the closest game to that budget is GTA4 and that's one of the largest games ever released.

Just to add to this... I believe FFVII - IX all cost around $20m- $30m too each... which when you throw in inflation is in line with all the other titles. God knows the source, I saw it on some forum i googled where someone apparently got it out a magazine or something, or an old interview *Shrug*.

With FFXIII though I would imagine Square just realised they could get a sequel out much faster after spending so long making the original game and most likely throwing away a lot of content.

LOL

If this is true then holy crap that sucks, the game is going to struggle to get half a million, I mean come on now really?

Lol no.

thats a big gamble. Considering the average amount a publisher gets on a new console release sold at 60USD is around 26 dollars about, they would need to sell 2.8 million copies to break even and being a PS3 japanese game that would be very hard considering only 5-10 million PS3 have been sold.

if this was a PSP game then that would be a different story.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong
