alright, hold the phone folks. Seems to have worked.
Testing stuff now.

Okay, reset system settings, and now it works on my TV with AV cables again.
HOWEVER, it does not work with through HDMI now. Does this mean the issue is the HDMI cable? It just seems odd that the problem would be the cable, since I only had issues when the PS3 was loading. If it were a cable-related issue, wouldn't it cut out at random times?
Or oculd it still be the TV? My TV is new too, so I don't like any of these things not working T_T

Try a different cable, dude. If it works for an AV cable, it should work for an HDMI. It could just be something wrong with the HDMI port, however. Try a new cable before you send in your PS3.

the cooling fan in your PS3 might be broken or damaged (graphical bugs = overheating GPU), you really should contact Sony

Thanks, I haven't had time as I've been away on and off for the last three weeks, hoping it will sort itself out while I am away, but when I get back I'll send it off.
How long is the warranty? 1 year?

Yes, the warranty is 1 year. However, they've extended the warranty to Jan. 15 for launch owners because of drive motor failures like what happened to me. How long have you had your system? I'm not sure if the extended warranty only covers the disc drive problem, or if it would cover your problem as well.

I got mine in at UK launch, so I should be fine

At least most of the hardware problems are random and unrelated, much like ours. There are still no signs of a faulty hardware design, like those that led to the ps2 DRE's and 360 RRoD.

I haven't heard many other stories on the internet about broken PS3 at all
@Bodhesatva
The problem sounds like it is with your hdmi cable.
buy a new one for no more than $10, as they are all essentially the same. then go to system output settings and set it to hdmi again- if you havent already.
I believe the PS3 may strain the usage of hdmi more at certain times, meaning that it would cause it to fail predictably.
everyone knows that to turn the system off, you have to hold the reset button for 5ish seconds. But as these guys previously stated, if you hold down the reset button when turning the system on, it will reset the output to AV, and almost always solve your problem.
@munkeh, hope everything works out for you, that sounds like a much more serious problem
