Forums - Gaming - OnLive In Talks To Collaborate with PS3 and Xbox 360

Just read this article this morning. Very interesting. Could you imagine PS3 players being able to play Halo? and Xbox 360 players being able to play God of War?  Its really hard to believe these exclusives being essentially "non exclusive" anymore. I have doubts this will happen. Here is the article I am referring to:

OnLive is reportedly in talks with Microsoft and Sony to bring its cloud based game streaming service to their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.

In an interview with
CVG, Onlive vice president of engineering Joe Bentley confirmed that OnLive’s service could work well on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and said that it was in talks with the companies to accomplish it.

“Absolutely, they would make great consoles. Our controller is a hybrid between a PS3 controller and an Xbox controller. It's all compatible, it would just work. There are OnLive guys chatting [Sony and MS], but we'll see where it goes. But it would absolutely work, we're ready to work with everybody,” he said.

OnLive allows users to play popular games on TVs, tablets, PCs and laptops using its cloud based game streaming engine. The company also offers a dedicated game controller to accommodate gamers on such a diverse range of devices.

If OnLive comes to these consoles, PS3 users will be able to play games developed exclusively for Xbox and vice versa, significantly enriching gamers' experience on both consoles.

Bently also hinted at a possible partnership with online gaming engine Valve in the future.

If that happens, then the two HD systems will officially have only 1 major difference. The controllers.

Anyone using OnLive? The ping for online multiplayer is good? The graphics is good? How many internet brandwidth is necessary?

it could work... but neither MS or Sony will let it happen... Exclusives are like Aces in a card game and given them up after so many work and money spent in them are just dumb ass moves!

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

I have mixed feeling about Onlive.

The service is absolutely awesome and is pretty much the future but internet connection speed just isn't there yet. It starts to chug and degrade visually too often with my internet connection, which isn't bad at all. I can imagine how bad it will be for someone with worse connection...

exactly my thoughts. So much money is poured into titles to become exclusives. I do however think cloud based gaming will have some role in the future of console gaming, but having non exclusives is in the highly doubt category for me.

hmmm. i'm interested to see where this goes and exactly how this will work.

Playstation All-Stars is one of the best games I've played this gen, and is the most fun I've had in a game this gen.

Very true. Although we may be getting to that point where speed is up to par. the company, Time Warner Cable recently announced Wideband speed witch allows for 50mbps download and 5mbps upload. Thats beginning to get mighty fast. It looks like cloud based gaming is going to keep rising as you have implied.

Yeah that should be sufficient lol...but just. I have 15 megaBits and i find it unplayable. Slight controller lag here, visual glitch there, slowdown...and I get pissed.
