have to ask, but would watching law and order to csi so much for most of my life would make me more desensitized. I have always wondered if watching these shows offer anything worthy because it has not helped me in La Niore which i fought would.

My girlfriend is obsessed with these shows--and they're always on.  I don't care what time of day it is, I'll hear that distinct "chong, chong" sound of Law and Order coming from the living room.  NCIS, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, CSi, etc.  Personally, I don't watch them.  The few times I did watch with my girl, it seemed like I was watching science fiction or something.  I used to watch Banned from TV, and Faces of Death (I had a morbid cousin that enjoyed those things and I tried to act like I was "hard" like he was) and I remember watching the video of Daniel Pearl being beheaded on the internet (still haven't brought myself to watch 3guys...you can't unsee that shit!).  These were videos of real people, really dying.

None of that prepared me for my first, REAL dead body.  Of course, I had to cowboy up and pretend I was okay but I was freaking out, inside.  So, while I'm no expert, I'm going to have to say no.  Watching a far fetched, albeit graphic, cop show probably won't dull your emotions to real life events.  And for what it's worth, being an actual cop that has actually canvassed actual crime scenes, and conducting actual interviews with actual crooks didn't help me with LA Noire. either!

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I should have figured, Sapphi.  I'm actually a fan of yours and if I took the time to see who was posting instead of what was posted, I should have caught that.  To be honest, the contents of my SD card have been used in court, several times (we'd print the pics out, of course).  I didn't always have a camera but I always had my phone.  I took pics of everything.

And while I enjoyed having that job and I think I'm pretty normal, I think that I lost some of my humanity because of some of the things I saw.  But, this isn't about me.  And I do genuinely feel sad for what that daughter had to go through.  If I thought about it hard enough (which I tend to not do because I'd depress myself), I'd probably be crying right now.

Wouldn't you experience in the army have made you lose your humanity more? Also, it's in a way good that you didn't think too much about this incident. I tend to do that and get seriously depressed for days. Sometimes I think that depression is some sort of werid drug that I like.

Airforce, actually.  And I didn't see much besides classrooms while I was in there.  No action, at all.  It did make me more disciplined and build my self confidence, though.

Ah, it's great then. The aftermath had you been in actual combat would've been much much worse than your experience with the police force.

Becoming less sensitive to some estimulations is by no means equal to losing your humanity. It is part of the mechanism that our mind activates in order to go on.
