lol i like monks better but vikings.Vikings just seem to overpower.
Who will win? | |||
| Viking | 29 | 46.77% | |
| Shaolin Monk | 32 | 51.61% | |
| Total: | 61 | ||
fyi the vikings conquered everything they tried to... besides France... the king just "gave" them land, proclaimed them vassals and told them "there's land up north for you to conquer". hence why Britain was ruled by the Normand (from Normandy... cause they came from way up north)
that said, shaolin monks have weapons too, not just fists... and a well used stick keeps an ax from reach. Vikings were fighting barbarians with similar weapons where strength was the main factor, or armored warriors where strength was also the factor.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
I come from a position of bias considering half of my ancestors were Vikings (the other half being largely Scottish, hells yeah barbarians all around), so I vote for the Vikings.
Shaolin Monk probably, because he's a lot faster.

excellent question!
I voted for the vikings, because at the end of the day there is no match for their shear brute force, and ability to take massive amounts of damage before they go down.
Shaolin Monks may have a more elegant and sophisticated way of fighting, but lets face it - they have to, otherwise they'd be crushed,
If anybody here saw the Jet Lee movie 'Hero', you know what I mean.
edit: oops I meant Jet Li's movie Fearless. I'll see if I can find the scene in question:

| Killiana1a said: Context please. Modern day vikings are what we would call the Norwegians and possibly Dutch (Someone from Europe is going to slaughter me for this analogy). If we pit a battle when Vikings were at the height of their raping the British Isles power, then I would take the Vikings because warfare is not a 1 vs 1 arcade game. It was conducted en masse and in small groups. I recall more Shaolin monk temples being burnt down with monks slaughtered by the Chinese than vice versa. Likewise, the physical comparison would have resembled the Vikings averaging a Lebron James physique compared to the Shaolin having the body of a Gilbert Gottfried. No comparison, Vikings because they had more experience in warfare, conducted war en masse and in small groups, while the Shaolin had amazing discipline and martial arts mastery, they are not a martial people with a martial heart. Instead, the Shaolin would lose a few battles and try to find peace higher up in the mountains or try to convert the Vikings. |
Awesome my ancestor were vikings :D
But too bad it ain't so, we dutchmen weren't part of the vikings. Here you go, this is what you wanted right? Or does it need more slaughter?
But it really depends on the situation, a average viking> average monk. Only a very skilled monk can overcome someone of the same calibur as him, but then there might be a viking amongst vikings who can defeat him. Just try to fight a person who is as skilled as you, but he has weapons and you don't. Though this only works if a weapon enhances him, and not weakens him.
But in groups, vikings > monks.
After seeing a Shaolin Monk display (kind of like a circus), I can honestly say they would win. They were just so amazing and strong.

I didn't find that movie clip I was thinking about, but looking around for info on Jet Li led me to this interesting fact:
"Li was eight when his talent for wushu was noticed at a summer course at school, and he began his practice there. Li participated in the sport of wushu in the non-sparring event. He began his wushu on the Beijing Wushu Team, an athletic group organized to perform martial arts forms during the All China Games. He was coached by renowned wushu coaches Li Junfeng and Wu Bin, who made extra efforts to help the talented boy develop. Wu Bin even bought food for Li's family because they could not afford to buy meat, which was essential for the good physical condition of an athlete.
As a member of the team, he received wushu training and went on to win fifteen gold medals and one silver medal in Chinese wushu championships, where, despite his young age, he competed against adults. According to Li, once, as a child, when the Chinese National Wushu Team went to perform for President Richard Nixon in the United States, he was asked by Nixon to be his personal bodyguard. Li replied, "I don't want to protect any individual. When I grow up, I want to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen!" which earned him much respect in his homeland.""
According to Li: "My winning first place caused quite a sensation, because I was so young. I was 12 years old, and the other two medallists were in their mid- to late twenties. During the awards ceremony, as I stood on the top step of the podium, I was still shorter than the 2nd and 3rd place medallists. It must have been quite a sight."
That's pretty bad-ass!
