I don't know. My cousins are 4 and 2 and they like to play mortal kombat from time to time :P

I will moderate them, like i moderated myself, turned out decently, having a job, and finished my education. :)
The only thing I would worry about is online gaming. It's way too addictive. I would rather have my kids visiting friends and bringing friends over to play together then hang out online all the time.
I was never supervised in what video games we played as kids. Sure they look more realistic now, but the content of operation wolf, wolfenstein 3D or leisure suit larry weren't exactly age appropriate by today's standards. It just led to some difficult to answer questions for my parents, what's a rubber, why do I need one?
As long as they know it's not real it's fine. Although there is one big disadvantage nowadays, everything is voiced, I don't want my kids repeating the language in most of the violent games.
Our first one is only two, just getting interested in 'flying' the airplane in wii sports resort. The 2nd one is still in the womb. Wii U will be fine for them next gen. Maybe Kinect by the age of 4. As of now motion control leaves him cold, he just wants to press buttons and see the airplane hit the water over and over in wii sports resort. No remote or controller is safe in the house, buttons must press buttons.
This is a very good topic.
I've been thinking about it for a while. Especially recently since I'm getting married yet I'm playing more games than ever. How do I moderate the little guys? We know that gaming can be a slightly distructive or time-wasting activity at times.
So my solution:
1.Try to inspire them to feel passion for some other activities that are geniunely constructive. Math, Music, Arts, Cooking, Sports. If they do this then they might feel less attracted to sitting indoors in front of a TV all day.
2. I'll get them a NES to start out with at the age of 3, then and gradually go through the different Nintendo gens while they're young. When they're 12 or so then they can play what they like, as I'm sure they would be responsible enough not to completely fuck out at life by then.

Its the biological imperative. Ignoring all other factors every organisim on Earth wants to have children and if an organisim doesn't something is biologically wrong with it. |
Oh please, that's just propaganda. A mere cultural myth perpetuated by society. Stop trying to paint me as deviant, and accept the reality that not everyone wants kids.

You're getting married? But what about the Russian hookers?

I believe that this'll change ;) (having kids is worth it just so I can say "WE CAN RULE THE GALAXY AS FATHER AND SON!") Thanks man! |
Haha, I don't know if that will change, but who knows?
BTW, what if you have a daughter?

I'll probably let my kid play games similar to Halo/CoD (I won't let them use the mic until they're at least 14) but I won't let them play games like Assassin's Creed, Gears. God of War until they're of the legal age (or at least until they're 15 since their friends would pressure them into playing those games). Otherwise, I know my child will be wise in balancing studies, sports, socializing and gaming so I don't need to worry about that :P |
Why this rule?

We rule as father and daughter, obviously. It just doesn't have that hammer sound :P
I won't moderate their game use period. My kids will be playing GTA when their 7 just like I did.
