Kids now can use mobiles at the age of 4......I have no doubt they will have watched porn by the age of 6 on the new SONY Mini Crystal OLED 3D Tablet.

However its uncomofortable seeing sexual content with parents in the same room.....I am merely making things less uncomfortable for my own children.

I have children now.

They are 5, 7, and 8.

I have yet to buy them a portable game console, however, I will be buying the 8yr old a DSi this week as he has been saving up for it for months. Reason for this is there was already enough game systems in the house and when we leave the house I'd rather them read or play with toys in car. In long trips our van has a DVD system for movies.

They can play games on PC, PS3, and Wii. They play a lot on various kids game areas on PC, seconded by a lot on Wii. Wii is only second because it is on main TV and that competes with me playing on it or PS3 as well as TV itself.

To monitor this there are some rules.

1. No game playing machine is in their bedroom and PC is in two communal areas we always see.
2. They can only play a limited amount of time a day.
3. I have parental controls on the PCs that force them off at 7pm on school nights and 10pm on other nights.
4. I buy all the games and don't buy stuff they are not appropriate to play.

Kids need to understand that everything should be done in moderation. While games do add value and help with various traits, everyone needs to run, play, and read as well.

It's simple.

I feel fulfilled when taking care of my close ones and adore the premise of teaching someone the ways of life and watching them grow and evolve into an independent thinker that knows how to make the correct and moral choices, and knows how to squeeze the most out of life... someone who is in touch with their innermost feelings and acts on them. (indpendent thinker/ me teaching the ways of life contradicts a bit, but I am about freedom, after all) - truly, I'm only 20, but by the time I do have kids, I will be far more experienced, and I think that I'd make for a fine Father.

(I am also cheesy as fuck and seem to constantly deviate into stuff, but regardless!)

You do seem quite cheesy, but I gotta admit that your innocent and naive reasoning is quite sweet. Hope raising children bring you happiness.

I've had personal experiences with children that have made me not want to actually dedicate important moments of my life to them. Just not really worth it all the sacrifices, to succumb to the myth perpetuated by society.

Its the biological imperative. Ignoring all other factors every organisim on Earth wants to have children and if an organisim doesn't something is biologically wrong with it. 

I believe that this'll change ;)

I won't be a naive parent when it comes to video games because I'm a gamer myself, so I'll know what M rated games are fine for a young kid to play. I'll probably let my kid play games similar to Halo/CoD (I won't let them use the mic until they're at least 14) but I won't let them play games like Assassin's Creed, Gears. God of War until they're of the legal age (or at least until they're 15 since their friends would pressure them into playing those games). Otherwise, I know my child will be wise in balancing studies, sports, socializing and gaming so I don't need to worry about that :P
