Forums - Gaming - A Gamer thinking inside the box litterily!

Wow just when you thought things couldn't get weirder for MMO's it seems that a performance artist has decided to think outside the box by shoving himself inside one. Gamer Jordan Wayne Long of Arkansas has decided to study the effects of post tramatic stress disorder and how games can help people cope.

So whats he going to do to study this, well he's going to lock himself in a custom made gaming crate and get shipped across the country from Bald Knob, Ark., to Portland, Ore. All while playing the  MMO "Lord of the Rings Online". The trip will be watched with reports from both the inside of the crate and the outside documenting every inch of the trip (While pretty close).

His theory is that many PTSD sufferers feel locked up at home and that MMO's can give them release to their stressful lives. "Being locked in the crate is an opportunity for me to feel the effects of being confined and understand better how these online communities can affect us in a positive way." So Jordan's hope is that gaming will help him cope with these seven days and that he'll emerge unphased I guess.

Anyways first thing that comes to mind is finding an excuse to game straight for seven days, but this is insaine locking yourself in a crate. Is this guy out of his mind or is he onto something? Actually how many of us would love to be shipped across the US while playing our favorite MMO the whole way? Are we crazy too?

Anyways the guy ships out (Literally) on July first for his trip across the USA. Will you be watching? Think inside the box, really a guy inside a box lol!

this looks as if it will be really really uncomfortable after a while

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Could have made it a nice box at least ..

I think he should have gone with a cooler-running system.

That's going to get pretty hot after a while.

Does not look fun to sleep in. How is he going to keep it powered and where is the food? I see the water, but that is not enough for seven days. Actually where is your source joe?

The way his feet are positioned gives me a shiver. This can't go well after a while.

I'm doubtful this is actually happening. A week's worth of food and water is quite a bit...where exactly is he intending on putting it all?

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Yah it is pretty hard to believe. Guess this guy is fasting or something, also where is all his shit gonna go? Well I guess immigrants immigrate this way all the time so its gotta be do able, just not comfortable in any way shape or form. Talk about taking your gaming to the next level anyone else here a die hard enough hardcore gamer to lock themselves in a crate and play an MMO for seven days straight till you arrive at the other end of the country. The fact that this is a supposed study seems hilarious I don't understand how this applies to stress disorders.

Ha, I get it. Nice pun.

"Litterily", because the game he is going to play is trash.

lol yah unfortunetly I can't take credit for that because it was a spelling mistake. I forgot to fix it when I went through the thread, I fixed it in the thread but totally forgot to edit the title.

But it is pretty funny, why would he choose Lord of the Rings , I saw it at PAX it didn't look that great!
