Forums - Gaming - Comparing graphics in 3D vs 2D is pointless

Take a recent example, Zelda OoT, high profile enough so everyone knows about it.

We get countless comparision from screenshots to videos. There's a very big difference when you view the game in 2D vs 3D, especially in motion.

Agreed, its certainly quite different when compared with a 3D Movie (vs 2D) for example. Its just gonna take them time to figure out how to market it.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Comparing is really hard especially when games often don't look as good in 2D. Though we all know that Vita has better graphics then 3DS does 3D or not. So I guess you can compare a bit. But its very hard to compare 3DS games based on 2D images because as Galaki said alot of things factor into 3D. Which is why I'm so glad Nintendo released 3D trailers for all their games so we could see them in their full 3D glory!

You definitely don't see the full picture, although I don't think comparing them is pointless. In OoT's case, the visuals have been improved, and people are probably more looking for differences in how the game looks. It is nice through the 3DS that we can see what games actually look like in 3D though. Kid Icarus trailer had some great depth to it when you see pit flying around.

Oculin's Box - Sometimes I think about video games when I'm not playing them.

Not for Europe/Pal Region. It seems as though only OOT has a 3D trailer available right now.

Wow sucks to be european. I wonder why NOE doesn't give the consumers more of the same stuff NOA does.

I agree, OoT in particular looks much better than expected when played in 3D.

Well, from what I can tell while switching from 2D to 3D and back, the anti aliasing is turned off during 3D and is on when in 2D. The depth effect of 3D really makes this game feel better though. Enjoying it very much so far.
