Forums - Gaming - Why the hell is the internet blowing up about this DICE/BF3 bruhaha?

I always assumed that what they were saying was that they wanted to actually use the power of the PC, rather than making an upgraded console port, and then downgrade to console from there. I won't find any articles right now. but I can't be the only one having had that impression?

DICE brought this on themselves!

DICE/EA have been really shady about the way they've handled the marketing for BF3. Their entire marketing campaign is based off the fact that the game is going to look next-gen and be the most graphcially amazing thing in the history of ever!!! All they've shown to prove this has been PC footage, but they did that with full knowledge that most of their customers will be coming from the console crowd. They are the ones that built up unrealistic expectations in consumers. Why are they marketing pc graphics to the console crowd? The game looks good but the reality is it will probably only looks slightly better than BBC2. Those are bait and switch tactics. They deserve to be called out! It may not have been false advertising per se, but you can't deny that their tactics have been shady.

I thought they already showed footage of the PS3.

they did but in a private viewing....or atleast that was what was said by an EA person. Personally i think the ps3 footage looked great...minus the large amount of muzzle flash...i think that was a little to much.

I do agree that DICE sorta brought this on themselves..they should have shown a trailer during E3 for consoles. Not saying DICE shnould have lean more toward promoting consoles over pc..but showing so much impressive footage and building everyone up so much will cause a back lash...however i think people are being unrealistic thinking console and pc could have looked the same. Im happ with what I seen..tho now im curious to hear what DICE has done for the XBOX and some lighting system they worked it...hopefully they dont build this up too much.

So take the BS seen in the console wars and apply it to the FPS genre.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Which sane person actually believed the footage they saw could be done on consoles?

I mean, The Witcher 2 on 360 took a massive hit.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

@wilco: I believe it was fairly obvious since the beginning that the footage they've been showing is from the PC version - and if you expected the console versions to run at 1080p and 60 frames per second, identical graphics, well, you deserved your disappointment. I can't seem to find an exact quote where DICE would have said that all versions are going to look identical, although I did find several articles stating so. That said, several also seemed to state that the console versions will be identical with each other.

Yes I knew it was PC and I never had such expectations, but many people were not like you and I. The way that dice was marketing BF3 made it sound as if it would be a generational leap in terms of graphics. Now they are criticizing people for having the gall to think it would have better resolution/frame rate than other shooters. I knew it would never happen, but considering the marketing campaign, can you really blame some people for expecting 1080p or 60fps?

I hate to use the comparison but you don't see MW3 demoing the pc version of their game just to make it look better. That game will also look tons better than the console version but the pc gamers are a niche crowd so they stick to demoing the version of the game that most people are going to be playing... consoles. To be clear, I am NOT a fan of the COD series but atleast with them we know exactly what were getting.

I'd like to believe that most people who expected 1080p and 60 FPS were mostly so ignorant and stupid they haven't even been following the game's development, thus not ending up disappointed. And those who did follow... Well, if they know what difference 1080p and 60 FPS makes, they should also know how difficult it is to do on current consoles.

You don't see Call of Duty demoed on PC because it looks very much the same; you most likely won't notice the difference unless it's your intention to find differences. Besides, to them, PC seems to be secondary so there's no reason to show a console version. Even more, they have a rather interesting partnership with MS so I'd be surprised if they didn't focus their attention on the 360 version.

I'm not offended, the graphical difference is huge but the game is the same game and if its a good game then the graphics just complement that. I might have to pick this up for my 360. One thing I am excited about is that EA said WiiU could handle BattleField 3 so I'm wondering if they meant the PS3 version or PC. If WiiU can handle the PC version that is amazing.

I think alot of the hubbub is console fans. Many are living in denial I heard just the other day that PS3 still hasn't reached its limits and that nothing on PC couldn't be done on PS3. Of course PS3 may not have reached its full limitations but to say anything done on PC could be done on PS3 is mad. Even funnier an X-Box fan recently said that Microsoft could go the full ten years because its technology was still competitive and state of the art.

Fact is fans don't want to hear that they will need to shell out more cash for a PS4/Nex-Box or WiiU! They are hung up on Sony's statment that PS3 could have a ten year life cycle. Fact is WiiU will usher in the new generation and hopefully be up to date with the latest technology. Then Nex-Box and PS4 will come. Its inevitable their is no way PS4 and Nex-Box will come after ten years, its just not possible!

DICE said all platforms would have same features and be the same game except multiplayer map size/player count. People then took that to ignorantly mean visuals would be identical too when anyone with any common sense would realize that average PC hardware is significantly more powerful than PS360 and there is no freaking way they will look the same since BF3, unlike CoD, is built on PCs.

This is also the reason many PC gamers are happy to see a new BF as it returns to its roots of supreme FPS build on PC hardware with the normal full BF experience.

Its pretty simple.

All systems will share the same core single player experience.
PC will have bigger maps and higher player count in multiplayer.
PC will have better visuals.

However,

PS360's map size and player count will be equal or greater than any other FPS.
PS360's visuals will be greater than any other FPS.

I don't see the issue. Just buy the version you want to play on.

If you want Live/PSN/dual analog... buy accordingly.
If you want kb/mouse... buy accordingly.
