Wii U is neither too late nor too soon. It's something that shouldn't have happened at all.

I can't tell if you're genuinely pissed ...

I get that all the time with Rol. Most of the time I'm never really sure if he's being serious or not.

In this case he's being sincere.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

I think Wii U may be coming too soon. Nintendo flat out stopped supporting the Wii (where is Pikmin 3?), and didn't need to release a new console yet. However PS4 and 360 successor may not come till 2014. If that's the case a Wii U launching in 2012 is too early, but I think PS4 and 360 successor with release in 2013.

When did it stop? They still have games coming for it like Kirby, Zelda SS, Mario party 9 and some games that are coming over from Japan.

Personally I’m glad Pikmin 3 was moved to Wii U

So before the Wii U was announced people like pachter said that if Nintendo would release a console now it would be too late as Sony and MS have already released HD consoles.

People seem to have forgotten that a console lifecycle is 5-6 years before the successor to it arrives.

Now Nintendo has revealed the Wii U and people are saying that it is late! Late for what? I ask. Late for HD they say! :P

Your either a noob or your memory before the HD consoles have been whipped out! Seriously!

The Wii is this gen and not last gen as people like to say. Sure it has dated graphics but it still is current gen. The HD consoles are current gen, not next gen as some people keep on saying.

>_<

You would think a person like Pachter would know the history of consoles and how they have been in the past.

Some people compares the Wii U to Dreamcast but I wonder why as there is no resemblance that I see between them. Well except that they both have screens on the controller but beyond that they are vastly different in every way.

The Dreamcast did not released before its predecessor had even completed a full console life cycle which the Wii will have in December this year.

Wii U coming out too soon? WTH since when was a console life more than 5-6 years? Or better yet the Wii U is coming too late!! What!? It is starting the next generation so how can it be late?

Rant over. sanx for reading!

Ever since the Wii came out, I never really considered it to be part of the current generation because it relies on gimmicks rather than actual quality, IMHO. It has always been its own thing providing gamers with a unique enough experience to make it not really fit in with the other consoles. Except for a few exceptions, certainly the games were not up to our current gen's quality standards. I'm sure many of you will disagree with me on this, but just because a game is good, it doesn't mean it is high quality.

"Since when was a console life more than 5-6 years"?...Since this gen actually. If we had to classify whether the Wii U is late or early, I would say definitely on the late side. By the time Sony and Microsoft release their next consoles, like 2-4 yrs from now, the Wii U will be obsolete from a hardware perspective. The Wii U is definitely not starting a new generation. The Wii U is coming out late, but in the long run Nintendo has been successful from pure innovation and so I'm not saying the Wii U won't succeed either.

I just wanted to expand upon my earlier post being that I thought of an additional point ...

With how high output resolutions have become, and with how little of a difference people see between HD resolutions, even if the Wii U is significantly less powerful than its competition Nintendo and third party developers have an unprecedented ability to hide the lack of performance of the system.

If you look at benchmarks of games like Crysis 2 and the difference in processing power required to output them at a resolution similar to 1080p @ 60fps at the highest level of detail and compare that to the hardware required to play the same game at a resolution similar to 1280x1080 @ 30fps at the second highest level of detail you will notice a drastic difference in hardware capabilities; but if you look at the visual result of these configuration changes the perceived difference in quality is fairly minimal.

Now, if people notice that the same games are released on the Wii U as their next generation competition and they only see minor visual differences with some "technical mumbo-jumbo" claims of why Nintendo’s competition is so much more powerful, it becomes a lot more difficult to sell your system based on performance reasons alone. While everyone could see the difference in capabilities of the Wii and the HD consoles by looking at screenshots or videos, it may be far less noticeable in the next generation to see the difference between the high performance and low performce systems.

So let me see here.....you said Wii wasn't part of the 7th gen consoles, and then you end by say Wii U shouldn't be the start of the 8th gen consoles. I think we have ourselves a Nintendo hater. Lolz

Well Nintendo is the one that keeps comparing Wii U to the current HD consoles ( didn't they recently again say that it's price point would be comparable to the PS3/360 ?).
So obviously they believe the Wii U is still part of this gen...

So let’s say Nintendo said it would cost about the same as a GC then that would mean they are saying it is part of that generation? are you saying it has to be more expensive for it to be called next gen? huh that’s a new one for me, maybe I should add this too my OP >_>

When you keep comparing yourself to the current consoles and even show footage of games coming to your console that actually comes for the PS3/360, you are hardly ushering a new generation.........

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

There's no denying that it would have been awesome if it released this fall with skyward sword, skyrim, the witcher 2 and oh well modern warfare 3 as launch titles.

That would give it some time to get a proper head start on the next consoles of sony and ms.
Late 2012 after zelda has been released and probably announcements have been made for the next ms and sony consoles might indeed be too late to get the hardcore to switch over.

But who knows what Nintendo has up its sleeves. By 2012 the casual market will be looking for the next new thing after Kinect. Maybe too late for the 'core' market, right on time for the casual market.

MW3, Skyrim and the Witcher 2 will be on the 360 and the PS3 ( well not Witcher 2) so why would someone switch over for those games ?

Agree the huge difference we saw before will not show the same way as before even though the console can be vastly more powerful than the current HD consoles.

Or it could be that they still do not have games developed for it that are that far in development to even be shown. So they show games running on the current HD consoles to prove that they can run on the new console to shut people up until they can show their own games

And again as most people do (though I do not blame you as you have not fallowed Nintendo throughout the years) they forget the garden demo and the Zelda demo as well. And that Nintendo’s demos are not shown the way Sony does. Sony shows you thing that can’t be done while Nintendo actually shows you a demo that can be outdone by real games.
