Forums - Nintendo - Wii U, 3DS online "closer" to PSN, XBL!

I will wait and see about this.

Around the Network

Hold on, the 3DS uses universal friends code, but they want the WiiU use a different method. I gotta see what they come with...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

I've never seen why the Wii's online get so much hate myself. It's clearly the worst of the 3, but the gap is by no means as big as people like to make out. Other than the fact that no-one uses voice chat, there is basically no difference between the online on MH3 and any of the games I've played online via PSN.

I've almost never experienced lag on any of my Wii games online. Even on the much maligned SSBBrawl, I've only seen lag maybe 5 or 6 times and it wasn't gamebreaking on any occasion. The other games it's even less, for example I can only remember lag on Tatsunoko vs Capcom once and maybe about 4 times on MKWii.

Even the much hated Friend Codes I've never had too much of a problem with. I just wish that I only had to add people once, rather than once for the Wii console then again for each game. And that's been solved with the 3DS' online abilities.

Did he just say 'FRIEND CODES ARE BACK' oh NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said they were different in relation to what 3DS offered due to its primary user base being younger. However, that does not mean WiiU will use them as I am confident Nintendo's attempt is to push it on the more mature market.

Additionally, having a single number tied to a user for all games is no different than having a gamertag or PSN ID with the exception being your personal creativity. However, with Nintendo's approach, you'll probably have your Mii Character (tied to a number) that is automatically tied to each publishers/devs online solution, based on Nintendo's comments that each dev could define their online experience.

Personally, not an issue FAR better than friend codes per game as well as fully capable to match or exceed any feature in PSN/Live.

With a name like wii U, I doubt they are even trying. Why a number? Is it that hard to make them into letters?
