Forums - Gaming - Battlefield 3 pre-order boycott launched

CVG

While it not uncommon for players that pre-order games to receive exclusive goods, that hasn't stopped over 2,000 voting in disapproval of EA's plans over on the publisher's official forums.

As well as access to the Back to Karkand map pack, those who pre-order the UK limited edition of Battlefield 3 - dubbed the 'Physical Warfare Pack' - will receive a number of exclusive launch day weapons.

These include the "Type 88 light machine gun with bipod for superior firepower and total zone control, the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor that provides increased stealth abilities for Recon soldiers, and the lethal armour-piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun that is sure to tear through anything in its path. Also included is day one access to the highly versatile DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun itself."

Reddit's attempting to coordinate the Battlefield 3 pre-order DLC boycott over complaints that the exclusive weapons will give those with access to them an unfair advantage.

The site writes: "If you don't purchase the pre-order or limited edition version of BF3, you will have to pay extra for the Karkand expansion pack.

"The only thing not included in the Karkand Expansion pack is the Guns and ammunition, which will create an unfair advantage people who pre-order. As well, charging people extra to play maps available on day one. This was a decision made by EA, and not DICE. DICE and all of us need your help to get EA to wake up and change their decision."

Just when BF3 was looking great. I really do not like items that will effect gameplay to be tied to pre ordering. AQt least they are not restrictive to certain stores, but still having exclusive weapons is a joke. I dont preorder games anymore ass I have yet to not find a game I want on launch week so whats the point in giving my money to someone to hold for me. These bonuses make me want to make sure I buy all of my games second hand so the devs get no money from me. They need to stop this crap.

The bonuses are not the issue or the fact that its a weapons bonus.

The issue is that the more expensive bundle, LE:WP should include the maps and the weapons. That's kinda standard approach.

Personally, I have the LE pre-ordered and am just fine with the just the extra maps. I've never required guns I couldn't unlock in game before.

the article says the le version does contain both and the issue is the unfair advantage that only people who preorder will have with these weapons that others do not have access to.

I guess this is a ploy to boost pre-orders. It may backfire though...

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

after some more reading it looks like you may be able t purchase all of these items about a month after release. That makes the situation better and more like some free dlc for pre ordering.

ooops I got my initial info from gamrFeed's article which said map was in one and weapons was in other.

Guess I should have read source.

So then I think these people are crazy. There have been plenty of games where you get some weapon for free for preordering. Its not like you won't be able eventually unlock this same weapon or one basically identical.

Its a non-issue.
