The policeman should've minded his own business.

he and another officer were speaking to a group women at a university about safety.  it was his business.

Edit:Okay so revealing your skin in a crowded place, the girls will be raped after they get the rapists' attention especially if you have your friends with you. lol

do you have problems understanding english?

you said making comments about keeping women safe were not his business to make.  when in fact it was his business to make.  it was the entire reason he was part of that event.  to speak to women about the topic.   additionally the officer never even used the word rape.  he said they could avoid sexual assaults by not dressing like sluts, which can be something as small as someone grabbing their leg at a party.

So what is this society you are talking about? Men control societies probably because they are more aggressive than women, have you ever thought of that? Traditional this traditional that, the world is hardly traditional anymore.

If you go around showing off, then whether you are a man or a woman, you will be disrespected by a certain crowd in the society. I guess the difference is you see less men walking in their underwear on the streets or even shirtless. Women obviously show off more than men. Showing off your arms = /= showing off your cleavage. Although I don't really have a problem with either.

It's irrelevant why men control society. What's important is that they do, and they repress anyone who's different or who doesn't conform to their imagined paradigm (women, people of other ethnicities or sexual orientations etc.).

I've actually seen more men almost naked on the street than women. There are generally much less restrictions regarding what's considered "decent" for a man to wear. For example men can go topless, while women can (in other cultures, like some African ones, it's quite normal for women to walk aroud topless to). A man can walk on the street wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, and (if it's summer) no one will get vocal, or call him "vulgar". A woman doing someting similar however...

Regarding rape prevention methods, there are some nuns who mutilate their faces, to keep rapists away from them. Surprised the police officer didn't recommend that to the women.

Okay so revealing your skin in a crowded place will get a rapists' attention especially if you have your friends with you. lol

A criminal is a criminal. You can live in a bubble and try to be as safe as you possible  and still get victimized and have a crime commited against you. If I get jumped walking down the street, should I be blamed for walking down the street. If a child gets abducted walking home from school, should that child be blamed for walking alone to his home. If one gets mugged/robbed,should they be blamed for having a wallet and material things. No decent law abiding citizen deserves to have any crime committed against them, regardless. Crime is so random and this blame the victim mentallity is just so aburd in my mind,it just makes me sick to my stomach how people can think along those lines. All of this is just my personal opinion,so please don't take it to heart.

You are crazy if you think dressing sexy won't draw some attention, just like dressing outside of the norm draws attention to you.

However, dressing like that does in no way whatsoever make you less of a victim. That's retarded and the kind of thinking I associate with extreme islamists or other religious fanatics. Normal people do not rape. A valid excuse for raping someone does not exist.

The policemen may have meant it in a different way and maybe just wanted to warn the girls because he knows that there are lots of sick and disgusting persons out there. No matter what he actually meant his wording was beyond terrible and it sounded like he put blame on the victims.

One last thing I'd like to add is I don't believe that there would be less rapes if all women started dressing in long skirts and fully covering tops. Instead, we would just find something else to use to put the blame on the victim instead of the worthless maggot that did the raping.
I'm sure that during the Victorian Age women were begging for it if they showed their feet, just like women in some countries today are begging for it if they show their freaking face.

^this  These are pretty much my thoughts

Lol so you're attacking someone based on their vocabulary? And you need to taste your own medicine cause revealing your skin doesn't mean you're gonna be raped.

Do you even know what is the most important thing a girl should remember to avoid rape?

you need to protest so this rule is implementated in the states. its a pretty awesome rule to say the truth i would love it, i have no problems with women waking topless, i think its more about the women themselfs having the courage to walk topless if such a rule is allowed

so you understand english fine but are continuing to say completely retarded things that have nothing to do with what i said?  which is why i asked the question because your response was stupid and had no bearing on what i said, not because of how you said your dumb comment.

How about a policeman telling a group of students

"Dressing in clothing that covers the majority of your body has been shown to lead to a decrease in the chance that you will get raped"

Assuming that it is true, and there is evidence to support this, is that a reasonable thing to be saying? In my view, it is. I'm interested to hear from all of you.

Then we get to the final thing, which is what the policeman actually said, that the students should  "avoid dressing like sluts" to avoid being victimised.

It isn't true.  All the evidence I have seen on the subject supports the opposite position.
