I gotta ask, when they say region free, does that mean I can grab my U.S. PSX dls and run them on a jap Vita? Cause you can't do that with jap PS3s.

no you don't have to leave your country. if its not released stateside but available by download then you can still get it on vita no matter then country.

Weird. I've downloaded a few games from the Japanese PSN and have played them on my US PS3 before, so I can't see how your example isn't working.

I run downloaded Japanese PS1 games on my European PS3.

I don't think there was really any REAL confirmation as to the Vita being region free, but it was confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida via Twitter that it will not be region locked.

Nice, that works out at £150 if imported from the US. It's likely to be £235 here (so the rumours say) so that's quite the saving.

Bit of noob question but does this mean all games will be able to play on it? Like what if they say Uncharted is region locked or something? I don't want that happening ..

As far as I know, I believe it pretty much means that all games for the Vita will be playable on all systems, no matter the country you live in. Example is the PS3, as you can play any game from Europe or Japan on a system you purchased in the US.

I'm a bit concerned about downloadable games = hopefully those will act like PS3 games wit multiple accounts instead of PSP like activations.

Thanks to all those who posted to my question, but I mean solely playstation 1 games. Yes you can play Japanese PSX games on other PS3s, but that's only because you got them from the import store. I mean if I bought Castlevania from the standard store and I buy a japanese Vita, will I be able to play those games on it? Disc based games don't run on japanese ps3s so I was wondering if I put in a U.S. account in a jap Vita, would it work.

Disc based games don't work on PS3 because PS1/PS2 games are still region locked on PS3. PS3 and PSP disc games can be played anywhere on any console.

Also if any of the services are region locked they will be probably tied to account and ip recognition not region you bough console.

Probably? Maybe? I don't need to be logged into my Japanese account to play games bought at the Japanese store. If Vita works like the PS3 it should be unproblematic.
