Killzone has a mandatory for online day 1 patch.

Enjoy losing 1GB to rushed product.

Rushed?  Weird...I played the entire game and beat it (Review should be up in 5 hours when the embargo lifts), and there were absolutely no issues with performance or content.

Quit being an insufferable pessimist all the time.

YEAH! that's @MUGEN's WORK HERE! from time on time.. :)

and RUNA, I would apreciatte you send those screenshots to my wallpaper colletion please ;) trougth Vita messages app...

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Ok guys, I'll just post this here since I can't create new topics on here just now. I have been thinking about buying a Vita for some time now, but I don't know a whole lot about the games that are available there.
The situation is as follows: My smartphone recently broke and my parents are pushing me to get a new one so I can check mails and surf when I'm not at home or in my apartment when going to University. I don't really see the incentive to buy a smartphone though as we have plenty of old mobile phones that I could use to, well, phone people. I, myself, would rather spend some money on a Vita than on a Smartphone, since, from what I gathered, the Vita (3G) is able to "read and write" mails and surf on the (mobile) internet, which would mean that I could use it alongside an old mobile. However, since I don't really know a lot about what games are available or about the system in general, I wanted to ask some questions:
1. Is the Vita capable of doing the things I described?
2. If it is capable, are the features good enough to be an alternative to a smartphone (phoning aside)?
3. Could you recommend me any games? (For reference, I'm a huge fan of SRPGs [Fire Emblem specifically, as you can see in my avatar] or JRPGs in general, but I do like me some platformers or action adventure games from time to time) Knowing some games that might interest me would certainly make my decision easier.
4. Does the Vita have region lock? I seem to recall that the PSP did not have one, but I am not sure about the Vita.

Thanks in advance!

1 - yes.  It can do emails and stuff.

2 - Yes, a good alternative.  and the vita does skype.

3 - Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention http://www.gamrreview.com/review/88960/disgaea-3-absence-of-detention/ (I wrote this review), Persona 4 golden, Rayman Origins/LEgends, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Killzone Mercenary (Reviews aren't posted yet, but it's good.  I just finished it last night).

4 - Nope.  No region locking.

:P

@mjk: yeah give it a day and you should see more traffic. Keep in mind a good chunk of people will be playing the single player campaign too :D

@Domflo: I will just answer the games question since Runa aready answered the other ones already. For games I would say Mutant Bob Attack, Guacamelee,Gravity Rush, UC Golden Abyss (this one has much more exploration than the other UC games) to kick things off. I'm not the best source for RPG recommendations but if you haven't played it on the psp I recommend Valkyria Chronicles 2

For games i recommend you Soul Sacrifice,Littlebigplanet vita,Need For Speed,Need for Speed : Most Wanted,Superstardust,Assasin Creed Liberation,Uncharted Golden Abyss and Killzone Mercenary

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

And the leaks were true ^^. Shin Mousou and Mato Kurenai Yuugekitai for ps3/vita. I never played Tokyo Majin games, but I do remember watching the anime series a couple of years back.

@Killzone patch topic: I think the patch is because vita game cards can only fit 4 gigabytes, so basically you're downloading the rest of the game. I don't think it has anything to do with the game being rushed. If the game had these huge issues we would have heard about them on forums etc...
P.S I love Rayman Legends, but I don't care much for touch screen levels. They are nice and entertaining but I'm not a fan of most things touch screen.

Online on the Killzone Merc beta was damn near perfect Kylie. What are you talking about. My internet connection is kind of crap, and still I never had one problem with the merc online experience.
