Forums - Nintendo - WiiU not compatible with non-MotionPlus Wii remotes?

Perhaps the new WiiU games will only support motion-plus, but for the Wii titles it will be compatible.
That would make sense, imo.

Nintendo's Wii U console will not support original models of the Wii controller without a MotionPlus attachment, according to comments made by Shigeru Miyamoto.

Chatter in the latest edition of Iwata Asks, suggests either the 2009-released add-on or the 2010 Remote Plus all-in-one model will be required for Wii U play.

It's likely the extra precision is needed because the new console outputs in HD. And, while the new tablet-like device is the main controller, the Wiimote still has a major role to play.

Miyamoto explained: "The other thing was we wanted to make the switch to HD. Right now I'm planning that people can still be able to use their Wii Remote controllers that they already have, which means this time you now have five controllers to play with [including the Wii U controller]".

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata clarified these remarks, adding: "You mean this new controller, and four Wii Remote Plus controllers for a total of five."

"Right," replied Shigsy. "Five controllers. And we have people play in many combinations. I feel like the Wii Remote has pretty much become its ideal form with the Wii Remote Plus".

I really hope the original Wiimote isn't supported for WiiU games. It would be a step backwards if developers still had to support the motion sensing in that model, while taking advantage of the new technology!

Wii Remote Plus and Wii Remotes with Motion Plus only please!

EDIT: Damn, I guess I made the title more sensational then intended. It's only WiiU games it won't be supported for, it will still be backwards compatible of course.

You need to change your title and OP. Nintendo's own site for WiiU (read my post above) proves WiiU is 100% compatible with Wii.

I've got two wii motes and two motion pluses, but i'll wait and see if they don't announce a newer model for Wii U that comes with rechargeable batteries

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah, that's a forced upgrade. There are lots of applications that have no need for a gyro.

It's twisted, but I kinda don't mind. Gives me an excuse to buy that totally pimp Zelda wiimote.

So i can still use my old Wiimotes if I plug in my motion plus?

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

This puts limits on developers and doesn't bode well for a ton of 3rd party support. Nintendo isn't making the right choices with this console. They are forcing developers to make games either with no local multiplayer or co-op, or make a motion control game if you want local multiplayer or co-op. Nintendo can do without more shovelware. They need to ditch the screen and make a traditional controller.

You can use any of the Wiimotes. Thread is wrong.

Go to e3.nintendo.com and look at the WiiU system specs.

That has nothing to do with my statement. Let me explain.

Accessories are just that.......accessories. They don't come packed in with the system. That means not every one who buys the system will own it. Which in turn limits the amount of content that utilizes said accessory. Which leads to developers not supporting the accessory al la wii motion plus. There aren't a ton of games that require one on the wii. Developers would have to go to extra lenghts to code for something someone might or might not be using for their game. It's not worth it to a lot of developers.
