Nice. I enjoy this hacking stuff, although I don't have nearly enough knowledge to understand everything of what they're doing. From what they're talking about it sounds like homebrew utilizing the full hardware capabilities of the wii could be coming in the foreseeable future.
I don't think this will encourage piracy more than what is already going on though - for those of you that didn't know people have been playing pirated games on the wii for quite a while now. So, I don't see this as "OMG the wii has gone PSP!!1!!" or anything.
Homebrew capability is always a good thing.

Somebody with better information feel free to correct me if i'm wrong which is definitely possible as i'm not involved with the Wii scene at all and am just talking out of general knowledge I gained from xbox-scene during the first xbox's run.
As far as I can tell this only allows homebrew unsigned code in Wii mode where the wiimote can be utilized instead of just GC games.
The media flag wasn't discussed so a modchip would still be required to play anything off a DVDR even if it's signed. That is unless this technology could be used off an SD card as a bootloader by creating another channel. However he didn't mention that so I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see.

I believe that they demonstrated that they're able to run unsigned code (or homebrew applications) on the Wii while taking full advantage of the Wii hardware; previously they were only able to run unsigned code on the Wii while it thought it was a Gamecube. In order to do this you still need to modify the system which (recently) became far too hard for most people.

the whole significance of this is that it is suspected that you don't need a modchip, though that is not confirmed.
