Forums - Gaming - Don't you hate trailers with absolutely no gameplay?

Given that Overstrike was just announced, I'm not surprised they didn't show gameplay. And quite frankly, I don't care that they didn't. I enjoyed the trailer, and given how much I've enjoyed all of Insomniac's other games, I have a pretty good feeling that this one will be just as awesome. I'll certainly be following it closely.

As for the new Star Wars trailer... Well, lets face it. Which is better; the trailers, or the prequels? Seriously, I really like the trailers. Of course, I doubt I'll play the game, but I don't think the trailers are a waste of time at all.

I hate them unless the game is not that far into development. If they want to increase awareness before they can actually show the game then fine i can live with that. But if you are far into your dev and your still showing off cgi trailers then thats just false advertising and i think it should be banned.

EVERY GAMERS WORST NIGHTMARE...THE TANGLING CABLES MONSTER!

       Coffee is for closers!

CG trailers are fun for a while. But they get boring. Show us in game shit, then we'll talk and take you seriously.

First initial announcement can be a CG trailer. Anything after that should have gameplay. If you do an annoucement trailer and then just show CG sequences for a year after people are going to start to think that you announced it too early or are spending way too much time making CG video.

EDIT: on axumblade just made this point..

Hmm, pie.

The biggest problem is they try to hype us with awesome looking scenes, but we get dissapointed when they finally DO show the gameplay. This happened to me many times.

I don't mind them for the first announcement of a game, but if continued they become annoying as hell.

No. They're teaser trailers meant to increase awareness. Neither of those games are coming out anytime soon, so it's not like there's not going to be another E3 for them to show gameplay trailers/footage.

SW OR is suppose to be coming out this year.

with creating that CG trailer, people see it and "Thats awesome!" (cause it was :P), then they go to the site and if they like or don't mind MMO's they'll get into it, if they showed only gameplay, i'm sure it would appeal to some, but it would be rather boring to a lot of potential players out there

I don't hate them but they annoy me sometimes. I want to see how the actual game looks...

Yes.

Actually let me be clearer.

YYEESSS. Go watch a friggin movie for crying out loud.

I don't really mind if it's an announcement trailer and sometimes a cinematic trailer but after we've known the game is coming out for a while, a little bit of gameplay would be nice.

Overstrike is acceptable considering Insomniac has 2 games coming out this year to work on. An announcement trailer is fine with no gameplay for me.

But we've been waiting on the Old Republic for how long? Have they shown any gameplay yet? I don't even remember because all I can remember are the CGI trailers from the past 2 years...

Go here. Doesn't look all that great really. In my opinion at least.

EDIT: And about the topic, no, I don't hate them. As an announcement trailer, things are fine. But as we get closer to release, it just gets annoying. SWTOR is a perfect example of a game that should have had gameplay trailers sooner.
