Forums - Gaming - Project Cafe: For EVERYONE? Wii series to continue?

Ever since the Super Nintendo days Nintendo has been in an uphill battle with it's image. Nintendo is seen as the 'kiddy' company with games that only appeal to a young audience. In fact its far from truth but Nintendo's  consoles lack the mature vibe from its competition. However, Project Cafe seems to want to address that problem.  Will this console finally appeal to EVERYONE? Core games for it's loyal fanbase, casual games for it's casual audience, and huge third party support for the 'so called hardcore'?

The hardest obstacle Nintendo will face will be convincing it's casual base who bought a Wii to transition into buying its next generation system. One way is by having a cool innovation but mostly it's by announcing the gamez. What better way then by introducing the Wii series to it? Wii Fit 2, Wii Sports 2 . Once they realize it's only available on Project Cafe they will be forced to buy one..eventually. We do have to consider the confusion it will cause among new Wii buyers at that time. But I believe the Wii has enough power to stand by itself.

What do you think?

"Interesting question. One possible solution imo, is too keep the "Wii" brand not anymore bounded to a console but to the controller style. For example Microsoft lately is using 2 brands at the same: time the "X360" brand for the console and "Kinect" brand related to certain games and to the control style. In a similar way Nintendo could use "Steam/Cafè" brand for the new console, while keeping the "Wii" brand for the Wiimote/nunchuk gameplay style, and the relative compatible games. Yes this may cause some confusion in the begginning but after all, it's the same thing happening with DS and 3DS. Another option may simply be to put the "HD" brand in Wii games and simply call them WiiSports HD.
However it's a little too soon to start talking about this, as far as we know from official news the N6 may still keep the "Wii" brand in its name, like "Wii Steam", "Wii2" etc. etc.

As for casual and harcore gamers, they can coexist without problems, the only important thing are games. Casuals and Hardcore already coexisted on Ps2, the only difference is that, at the time, we weren't discriminating."

For starters, I foresee a problem with putting "Wii" and "Stream" in the same sentence...

Why?

They'll try.
I just don't see how they can do it, though. Core gamers seem to be allergic to 3+ being the most popular games and, frankly, I can't blame grandmas for disliking "KILL KILL KILL". But without 3+, they're not gonna capture the so-called casual audience and without "KILL KILL KILL", they can't expect core gamers not to make fun of Nintendo.
Just having Cafe Fit will kill the core for them.

Nintendo's biggest problem for several generations has been lack of third party support which has led to significant gaps in their game line-up; but, as long as Nintendo produces a system which is viable for cross platform games, I think this will no longer be a significant issue.

sure they can, it wont be easy. Id argue that GC did have all those things, its just that PS2 was such a monster no one cared

A wii series game on cafe wouldn't really make sense since it has wii in the title, they would have to call it something else like cafe sports but I assume the name will change.
