Forums - Sony - Killzone 3 multiplayer = yay/nay?

I play Resistance 2 online even though KZ3 is lying in my cupboard. I really haven't been able to enjoy it much. There's something about the combination of controls and game engine that irritate me. Can't put my finger on it. I did ok in the few online games I tried, but I just didn't have much fun at all.

They made it CODish.

Really, they majorly turned off hardcore KZ2 players and failed to attract to the  COD audience.

Dude, I've tried many fps online multi - MW, MW2, Resistance 1 and 2, Halo, and even Killzone 2 - and they always bored me to tears. I played KZ3 for a little bit and I honestly was hooked. It's really well done.

In the end, you could still dislike it, depends on your taste. But that's just my story. Let us know what you decide! I really don't think you'll regret getting it.

I wouldn't take this comment too seriously. Based on the VGC Ranking game, he seems to have VERY high standards compared to even 'hardcore' gamers. He gave extremely low scores to many games that most people loved. I don't think you would relate to him very well.

Yay (Or should I say Nay?)

Despite all of Bad Company 2's problems, you still had a lot more maneuverability with the maps. With Killzone 3, you usually have a left, center, right doorway, that everyone camps. And one shot sniper rifles. Why? Why would anyone think this is a good idea?

Killzone 3's online is better than Killzone 2's in some ways, but worse in others.

Features that have been added and/or improved:

  • Revamped class system means you aren't forced to start as a grunt and grind your way to the fun
  • New modes are fun, particularly Operations
  • Controls are much improved over the last game

Features that have been made worse and/or removed:

  • Clan system is a shell of its former self, with betting completely removed
  • The plethora of stats you could access in-game in Killzone 2 are all gone, though they may still be accessible via the website
  • The maps can be a bit cluttered, and generally aren't as well laid out as in Killzone 2, however Bilgarsk Boulevard is right up there with Radec Academy and Salamun Market

For the more competitive player, it's arguable Killzone 2 was the better game, but Killzone 3 has managed to become more accessible and have more variety without betraying the core gameplay that made Killzone 2 stand out, so for the average person Killzone 3 is the better game.

But you're talking about Black Ops.  Who wouldn't trade it for Killzone 3?  :P

Okay I think Jetpacks new better and bigger maps made the game a lot better. I find Killzone 3 better than any FPS ever made. Killzone 2 maybe was a better game. But the tacky controls for Killzone 2 were just horrible and that turned people off.

IMO it's good and could be better.

The major complains are related to classes, tacticians and marksmen. Tacticians have the ability to locate in the radar the enemies. It's not a big deal for me, but when you find that almost everyone is a tactician in the enemy team it really gets annoying. The marksman uses a sniper rifle and can use cloaking, thus making camping easier (although this happens with some maps).

What's really fun is when you play in a squad with mics. The squad is  more focused in the objectives, and the game gets more fascinating.

The best mode for me is "Operations".The bad thing about operations are the maps, only 3 maps... I think GG should make more maps for operations, but they said there won't be any. They are releasing a new patch this month which will fix some issues, so I hope they will consider operations maps in the future.

KZ3 is good and it can be better. There are issues, but I overcame those issues when I joined a clan.

A little late to reply....

Well there's some things that are a little disappointing about KZ3 so I haven't been too much in a rush to get it.

I actually tried playing the singleplayer demo again and kinda pinpointed why the aiming is so damn frustrating sometimes: Like Unreal Tournament 3, the look speed is inconsistent. If you move the stick all the way in any direction slowly, you'll see that there's a point where it just randomly speeds up by alot. It's really annoying. I find that when I'm trying to aim, sometimes it feels like it's not sensitive enough, but at the same time it can feel overly sensitive once you hit reach that sudden speed-up point.

Anyways, if I get it at all it's definitely gonna be used. I still occasionally check amazon for used prices. Chances are I'll mostly just stick to bot matches though. I could imagine playing with other peeps getting frustrating when you look at all the things in the game that can be abused =/ I wouldn't mind having an occasional bot match here n there just to shoot around. The last fps that really had me hooked was BC2 so I'm really just waiting for BF3 to come out!

I honestly didn't have my expectations for KZ3 too high this time around though. I always felt GG were way too obsessed with graphics and visuals to have enough time for proper multiplayer balancing. Even Uncharted 2 - looks stupidly good, but the multiplayer had some awkwardly retarded design flaws O_0

Anyways, thanks for all the replies and info!
