Can someone tell Sony PR that "Videogames Smack-talk 2011" (and other previous years) is not a real event?

So true.  People are acting like Sony said that the 3DS is pure shit and that Nintendo could go and suck their slongs.  All companies try to make their product more appealing.  Why would a company say, "Yea our product is pretty good, but you should check out our competitor, they got GREAT products!"

A) "There's no one clear competitor in terms of what NGP offers," Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment worldwide studios, told Eurogamer in an interview.

B)But Yoshida said Sony and Nintendo had a common enemy: the cheap mobile game.

C)"We are dealing with the same issue that Nintendo is. It's up to content publishers, including ourselves, to show people that this is worth £25 or £30 as opposed to 59p.

D)"You cannot release the same content that you put on the iPhone for a dollar on to NGP or some other consoles and expect people to pay 20 times that."

A) Pretty true. NGP should be a portable powerhouse.  I can't even see devices larger than it producing bettter graphics(other than dedicated home consoles).  At least not until ipad 3 or 4.  It's also got more methods of input than those devices to boot.  The only worry for me is B,C,&D.

B)Brain Training was a cheap mobile game and I don't think it's anyones enemy.  The same could be said of Nintendogs and look at the success they catapulted the DS to. Angry Birds, Tiny Wings, Cut the Rope... again and again consumers show they love this type of content and Sony viewing this type of content as an enemy does have me scared.

C)Very true though I don't think they should be selling portable games for 30 Euros.  9.99to 29.99 dollars should be the limit as far as I'm concerned.

D)Does this mean price parity with iOS?  I most certainly hope so.  If that is the case irrespective of their fear of such content they should be able to get it on the platform which will be a boon to them and many games probably greatly improved by buttons.  Somehow the previous comments don't quite lead me to believe that though...

Brain Training was not a cheaply developed game. It used alot of science and a doctor's input. It took tons of data and work to create the game. Also Nintendogs was also not cheap have you seen the game visually it was stunning on both DS and 3DS. The game also has hundreds of hours of playability.

Also Angry Birds and Cut the Rope are not what Sony or Nintendo are talking about. Both games were well developed. Infact Angry Birds as far as I know is coming to a Nintendo platform near you. What Nintendo and Sony are afraid of is the thousands of cheap Flash like games with little quality being made for a couple thousand dollars or less then sold at 99cents.

Nintendo and Sony are afraid that the cheap phone games and internet games that lack substance and are made super low budget. That these poorly concieved titles will steal market share from the proffesionally made ones. This is a very scary idea, and Nintendo and Sony should both be scared.

N-Space said themselves that they would make more money creating dozens to hundreds of cheaply made crappy phone games then to make their portable DS games. Other developers have also said that these cheaply made peices of crap are stealing their market share.

EA and other publishers have begun investing in these cheap games. Creating more cheaply made crappy content. These cheaply made games then steal market share from the more expensive proffesionally made games.

I'll attack a very popular game in a second. FarmVille is a perfect example. The game is a watered down and when I say watered down I mean bare bones basic version of Harvest Moon. However the game is free to play with users purchasing cheaply made content. This game is stealing hundreds of millions of users who might have paid 49.99$ for Harvest Moon. Harvest Moon a much more expensive and quality driven game doesn't have a chance at competing against this cheap free to play peice of crap.

Now I have played FarmVille for a long time back when it first released. I played other FaceBook games they are truly addicting. But they are cheaply made and lack substance, I of course never stopped purchasing more expensive games. However I know people who game more on FaceBook or I-Phone then they do on consoles.

These cheaply made bare bones experiances are stealing market share from the real game developers. Anyone who tries to argue FarmVille is a better and more expansive content driven game then Harvest Moon, needs to have their brain examined. These cheaply made games are damaging the industry and hurting developers bottom line.

As for parity pricing, dude your nuts. Parity pricing means parity development costs. A Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony title costs millions more to develope than say Angry Birds. If you want to see their titles priced alongside Angry Birds then the quality of the games need to go down to be inline with Angry Birds.

Think of God Of War Angry Birds style? Or how about Halo in Flash? Sure it may be fun to play a few hours. But the content just isn't their. Who would want to buy UnCharted in Flash? Sure it may be 99cents and about 7 levels long. It may last you an hour or two.

Would you honestly want to see Resistance, Uncharted, Halo , KillZone, Banjo-Kazooie, SmashBros all brought down to Angry Birds level? If you would, then you are a very rare gamer. Most gamers are willing to and wanting to pay for the content to be of a higher quality!

People seem to get deaf? Who are you trying to kid? Iwata's speeches explaining his stance on smartphone games caused such an immense uproar on the internet that it's unbelievable.

And people are criticizing Sony here because they used the exact same comments last generation and it shows that getting cocky is something they can't seem to get over, which is something of a major problem since it caused their crash this generation.

Nintendo actually deserves less hate for something like this because it's the first time in recent history that they were even remotely offensive. They've actually said plenty of good stuff about their competitors here and there.

Marketing doesn't have to involve trash-talking competitors, you know.

I'm pretty sure Sony PR helped create one of the greatest stigmas in the industry; that Nintendo is for little kids.  I don't know why people feel the need to associate the inner workings of a company with PR.  The whole point of PR is to bullshit and cherry pick and put everything in a positive light for the company.  Why the hell do people associate a PR grunt with the arrogance of a corporation?  It's just talk.  The only way a company can show arrogance is if it does something tangible.....like charge 600 dollars for a machine.  THAT is arrogance.

Even if his sentence was poorly worded, taking it out of context makes it seem worse.  His goal was to say that the Vita is in its own league, which I thoroughly understood.  He could have said it better in anticipation of the cherry picking media.

And as for NGP being an updated PSP.....again this is PR.  Anyone expecting complete objective truths from PR of any company is quite frankly, a moron.

Although, imo the tech changes from PSP to Vita are much greater than those from DS to 3DS.  The touchpad alone is a bigger difference to me.

Why the insults?

I don't know about you, but I do expect to be told the truth when a company speaks about its own product and how it's supposedly better than the competition's... My question is, why do you insist on defending this corporate hired troll?

You haven't been completely objective about what you say either - - - - - How is adding a touch screen/pad to a PSP/NGP any bigger of a "tech change" than adding a 3D screen to the DS/3DS? Suddenly, you defending this PR doesn't seem so strange

I was using that to shock people into reality. It was for anyone who has been here for any length of time and refuses to acknowledge what a PR department does.  This is their JOB.  He's not a "troll", this is an internet idea.  His job is to spin things positively.  If they were supposed to tell the exact objective truth and said this they would be in trouble.  Since no company does this, after a while people should get the hint.

As for my OPINION, I stated it was simply that. My opinion.  I don't believe 3d is that big of a deal, a bit of interesting novelty.  The touchpad and touch screen add a lot of depth to Sony's product that wasn't there with the PSP.  I think mutiple control schemes and changes of that magnitude are more interesting.

I'm not defending a corporate troll, that is just childish forum talk.  I'm telling people to get a grip, how many times can you complain about the same thing, especially when it is so inane and obvious what's going on?
