Forums - Gaming - Sony: "No clear competitor to NGP" Nintendo 3DS an "updated DS

This way they cant "lose" to Nintneod if it outsells them because they are not in competiotion......

Guess it's easier for Sony to ignore them than actually do something to combat them

This sounds like Microsoft claiming Nintendo wasn't a competitor at the start of last gen and this gen.  And we saw what happened.

Why do the people at Sony keep talking like that. Sure the 3DS is running slow again, but as history tells us over, and over, and over again, it will pick up it sales once the market is flooded with good games for it. And then it will just be a snowball effect. I wish the NGP well, and i hope it's customers get what they are hoping for (i don't buy handhelds) but Sony has to stop this trash talking. It never turns in their favor and ends up buring them in the end. I mean it's not like the NGP is so much different from PSP.

"Aside from the 3D stereoscopic display, they seem to be keeping the same theme that they had with the DS – it feels like an update of the DS to me."

So by that rationale, this isn't an update of this?!

When asked whether the PSP will be priced higher than the Nintendo DS--which Nintendo today announced would sell for 15,000 yen ($149)--Kutaragi declined to comment, but stressed that SCE's handheld will still sell well if it's more expensive than the DS, since the systems are positioned differently and won't be competing directly in price. Kutaragi said that he sees the DS as a new GBA model, while on the other hand he sees the PSP as a totally new handheld with next-generation specs.

This is why I disagree what Sony does. Ever since the PS2 era, I havent been following them. Why? Because they are arrogant.

so does this hint a price over $300?

the NGP does look quite good, it may be the 1st handheld i buy at launch depends on price though

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

I'm pretty sure Sony PR helped create one of the greatest stigmas in the industry; that Nintendo is for little kids.  I don't know why people feel the need to associate the inner workings of a company with PR.  The whole point of PR is to bullshit and cherry pick and put everything in a positive light for the company.  Why the hell do people associate a PR grunt with the arrogance of a corporation?  It's just talk.  The only way a company can show arrogance is if it does something tangible.....like charge 600 dollars for a machine.  THAT is arrogance.

Even if his sentence was poorly worded, taking it out of context makes it seem worse.  His goal was to say that the Vita is in its own league, which I thoroughly understood.  He could have said it better in anticipation of the cherry picking media.

And as for NGP being an updated PSP.....again this is PR.  Anyone expecting complete objective truths from PR of any company is quite frankly, a moron.

Although, imo the tech changes from PSP to Vita are much greater than those from DS to 3DS.  The touchpad alone is a bigger difference to me.

Why the insults?

I don't know about you, but I do expect to be told the truth when a company speaks about its own product and how it's supposedly better than the competition's... My question is, why do you insist on defending this corporate hired troll?

You haven't been completely objective about what you say either - - - - - How is adding a touch screen/pad to a PSP/NGP any bigger of a "tech change" than adding a 3D screen to the DS/3DS? Suddenly, you defending this PR doesn't seem so strange

What he says is true, they are designed for completely different markets. Everyone was saying this before this comment, and after it everyone acts like it is the first time they heard something like this.

Updated DS is trolling though.
