btw Apple has 500k apps, even the Ipad has more at 70,000 apps.

So pace or not, you want apps either apple or Android is your best choice.

That's not the focus on the Windows Phone OS. The main focus is functionaity right in front of you when you turn on your phone. It's get in and get out. Less phone time, more time for everything else. They are building the OS to give you those everyday functions without having to go through apps. So yeah, you'll need more apps to make up for what the OS lacks..

sure, I like access to my phone, i like to able to customize it, change it around once in awile, I am currently using the launcher 7 on my eveo 3d plus the zune music app mod. It's basicly windows phone 7  on android. Next week, maybe something else. And, My phone can do everything, why should I cut its time short.

Who's forcing you to buy a Windows Phone? o_O ...You like Android, keep it. I have a Windows Mobile phone too and I use that to do what I want, just like your Android, just swap SIMS. I can download whatever files I want. Install ANY software I want, with no Marketplace in the way. I can sideload anything I want. Android is what the old Windows Mobile was. Windows Mobile was much more open though. M$ was also too lenient on the harware manufactures and their phones were slow as fuck.

the phones werent slow, the software was crappy. As for android, they need to work on the battery life, the look as well, thus why i get HTC versions. They need a better music and video player. But besides that, they have the best os for smartphones for heavy users.

Btw, i think WebOS is the best smartphone OS period. No one can match their multitasking.

HTC was the only company that made Windows Mobile phones in the US, that I know of. HTC's overlaying software was what made the phones slower than they needed to be, that along with carrier bullshit software. M$  wanted all that to go away. They were ruining the way the OS operated and I guess ruined the image of the Windows Mobile brand. You had 2 or even 3 layers of software running ontop of eachother. Lots of people started hacking the phones to remove all that crap and making custom roms to get the phones down to the basic software. Android is faring better, because there is way better hardware on phones now then Windows Mobile ever did. Google came out at just the right time with Android.

I am disappointed that they stripped lots of functionality from Windows Phones  compared to Widowns Mobile. What I love the most out of Windows Phone 7, no more overlaying software, just what I need in front of me. That is the best trade-off. Mango is also brining lots of that stuff back and more.

Most of the WP7 devices in USA are HTC but AT&T has the LG Quantum & Samsung Focus as well as HTC Surround. Verizon has HTC Trophy, Sprint has HTC Arrive & T Mobile has HTC HD7.  Understandable why one would think that HTC was the only one though.

I Had the HTC Surround but switched back to Verizon since AT&T service blows in my area. Currently own the HTC Trophy and it is a really nice phone.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

pbroy is talking about Windows Mobile 6.x, which is what came before WP7.

I've never used a Windows Mobile 7 phone. Apparently Launcher 7 gives you the Windows Mobile 7 experience on an Android phone so I'll go download that and test it out.

Android has a ton of apps o_O;;;; where did you even get the idea that WP7 has the same type and amount as Android? Are you talking about games or actual apps?

How many apps does Android have? Windows Phone just hit 20,000 apps. Window Phone 7 has only been around for 8 months. I'm pretty sure, out of those 20,000 apps, there is a type for whatever app you are looking for. Plus, most of the useful features are already built into the OS and don't need an app to do. Mango will make even more apps irrelevant.

Purely basedit on just goin through mine and my wifes phone app stores.

Thy seem to be prety equal.

..................... there are apps that are not on the store too.... well, they included that in the wiki as estimate anyways I guess. Don't forget that google owns the internet.

geez, I read more of the replies and wow, I was just pointing out to selnor that there are a lot more apps on the android than the current windows phone, which is to be expected since android has been out a lot longer than the current version of windows phone. Not to mention I just use Winamp or Moboplayer for multimedia anyways, I only use the stock one for quick playlists on that nice small widget. Android is better for people who like flexibility is about it. I'm definitely not going back to iPhone, that's for sure. My brother is happy with my old 3GS though, he never had a smart phone before that and it's jailbroken and loaded with apps already from my past usage =D.

Given the update problems (up to and including bricked devices) that Samsung's Win 7 phones have had, I probably would have bought... anybody else's Win 7 phone.

Samsung has the worst software support out of all the major smartphone manufacturers right now, with the exception of the Nexus S, since Google directly handles software for that device. Microsoft is supposedly handling software for all WinPho 7 devices, but Samsung somehow manages to screw things up anyway.

If you want good software support, get a Nexus or an iPhone. HTC comes distant third, with 50% of their phones getting a software update, IIRC. I'd stay the hell away from Samsung devices until they learn to support their products.

Yeah at first I was contemplating getting an iPhone 4 (not because it's popular but because it has the edge in terms of app selection and commercial games. Android Market is pretty massive but I do find that a lot of websites tend to only have an iPhone app but no equivalent Android app and that irks me. So yeah, because Apple was in the game first and they have strong brand power, they tend to get first dibs and exclusives) but ultimately went with Android because it's more open, gives you more freedom, has grown so much and has even more potential for growth and because I hate Apple, Steve Jobs and his acolytes (lol). Only reason why iOS has more apps and games is because Apple entered the game first and has strong brand power. Whereas the Android brand strength doesn't quite correspond 1:1 with their market share (in US, Android OS Smartphone market share is at 36% while iPhone is at 26% http://www.betanews.com/article/Android-dominates-smartphone-market-but-consumes-tons-of-data/1306958465.) Mainly because when you buy an Android phone, it usually has a HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, etc. logo on the phone and doesn't say Android on it or have a little green robot on there (fair enough, that would be geeky). So it's hard for Android to gain brand recognition like that. My HTC Desire HD has a Google logo on the back. That's it.

And yeah I agree that software support is a bit of an issue with Android phones outside of the Nexus S. Given how companies like HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, etc. have such a hard-on for installing their own custom user interfaces and software on the phones instead of letting Google handle that shit. I'm still waiting on HTC to release HTC Sense with the Gingerbread 2.3 update. Apparently HTC was supposed to release the update in May but it got pushed back to June due to some bugs or some shit. I've seen people install custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROMS on their Desire but obviously this voids the HTC warranty. Meanwhile my buddy who bought a Samsung Nexus S got Gingerbread 2.3 out of the box and can get updates from Google directly in the future. And the phone comes unlocked and I think it has greater radio band support but I'm not sure (I think. He got it from Wind Mobile. The radios they put in those phones are different). The HTC Sense user interface isn't bad. I like the layout. And Friend Stream allows me to quickly check out what's going on with my Facebook friends. But HTC Sense gets in the way of doing what I want with my phone (ie. connecting my Wiimote to it via Bluetooth, getting Android updates in a timely manner, etc.) So I might root this thing. If it breaks (I have a screen protector and a protective rubberish shell but still) or the software gets screwy, I'm kinda fucked if I void my warranty though. Should have waited for Nexus S. lol. I had to have a smartphone right away because I was tired of using a numberpad for texting my friends.
