LOL.

Brazi, a vast number of the people who bought  PS3 and 360 aren't loyal fanboys who just buy one console no matter what. They buy whatever console of the generation offers what they want.

See how PS3 lost alot of people to 360 from the PS2 gen  for proof of this.

Nintendo just has to launch with a couple of Nintendo IPs, alot of multiplatfrom games and one or two exclusives (like an FPS, RPG or TPS or something). They'll have a launch that can attract a varitey of customers that way.

We know we'll get a nintendo IP or two at launch and of course ports. Nintendo knows they will have to differentiate themsleves a bit instead of just having PS360 ports so they've probably got one or more 3rd party exclusive (published or whatever) for the launch window.

"use that money to build the next generation console that will blow people away, bringing your fan base with you"

The problem is that assumes the fanbase is that loyal, and the N64 showed a fanbase will not follow a console if they don't like the direction compared to the console that won them over.

Yes but remember the PS1 came out before N64. All fans were stunned with a brand new console brand AND a real console rocking a CD drive... This will be the opposite. Nintendo will be out first with the bells and whistles this time. All games 1080p and 60fps for the first time. A controller that will do.....um.....whatever it will do for the first time.

What? Gamers did not flock to the CD drive, or to bells and whistles. Third parties flock to those, but gamers flock to games. That's always been the case. The PS1 had better games with more appeal. That was how they beat Nintendo twice in a row. The tables turned this gen, but Nintendo going back to bells and whistles is what alienated gamers two generations in a row.

So acting like they will flock to this system, when history shows the opposite reaction to bells and whistles (games still sold the HD systems, not the HD graphics) just shows the same ignorance of gaming history that Nintendo is showing.

I always come to these threads late, and there's always an opinion to agree with. This one.

I mean, sales speak for themselves. While Heavy Rain had flashier graphics (this is just to prove my point about sales versus graphics), Red Dead Redemption sold way better just using the older GTA IV level of graphics. And the Crysis series isn't exactly flopping, but it's not tearing up the charts in any way, even though it's considered the premier series for graphics now.

Of course it's true that gameplay is most important.Very ugly looking GTA:SA prooved it on PS2.But more power is not only graphics.Red Dead,Fallout,Battlefield:BC,Assassins Creed,LA Noire,Little Big Planet and many many more games wasn't possible on PS2 in the way we know these games.i expect not only graphics but mostly super physics, much better AI,1 to 1 body motion, truly realistics weather conditions(not only graphicaly but physicaly where water and snow gather, wind influence every object etc) because that's what can inspire devs for new games and give changes in gameplay.

Except new changes in gameplay are less common on those systems. The biggest selling games are from genres established years before. As I already mentioned, the cost increase means more risk aversion.

That's what I also expect from the next Nintendo system if they are going for high fidelity graphics.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

1.I meant true fans of Nintendo.the gamers which enough argument is that is Nintendo console and even if it would have 2 Mario games and 2 zelda games and 1 metroid they would buy it.

2.HD Twins owners bought it to play games that Sony or MS offers.that's my point

3.no matter what anybody will say I do not believe Nintendo will make themeselfes a game where you can ripp some one arms and head or cut sumbady in half with tons of blood.that's just won't gona happen.Of course 3rd party can publish it on their console but Nintendo will never publish and develop such game by itself.

4.I predict it because of multimedia capabilities and i do not remember console that sold 15m in past gens a year like PS3 with price point of 299$ so we have many more console entusiasts nowadays.at price point 149$ every gamer that don't own current gen already and technologichal maniac must buy it and that price will be reality near 2014.After this year(2011) price cut we will also see boost of sales.

5.no it's not obvious.Sega lost much money to prove it to you :) and as for today Sony is in overall loss in business around ps3 and MS after loosing 2bln$ on Xbox and 2-3bln$ on 360 they haven't made a penny in overrall in plus. But they will in 2 years from now.

6.PSX didn't copy SNES. Mrs Ohga wanted controllers to be flat and rectangular as SNES one but designer fightet with the Sony bess so it can be 3D and with much more buttons.

1. Reread my post.

2. There are different games for different gamers, even for different platforms. On just one platform, you have gamers of different tastes, imagine on two separate platforms. You can't bundle Sony and MS in one big bag, they offer very different exclusives imho. It gets even more paradoxal when people who buy either of the two or both also buy a Wii, then your mind probably blows up, cause they're fans of both.

3. Not my problem, sorry. The facts are there, denial is your prerogative. Don't expect me to respect the stance though.

4. Price was just cut dramatically for the Wii, I don't see it selling much more atm (it just saw a price cut). There are just so many price cuts you can do. When a market is saturated, it's saturated. Worst case, the later buyers will be getting it as a Blu-Ray player, which doesn't lead to large software sale potential. I'll admit on this point I'm predicting, so I may well be wrong, but even then they're no way you'll be able to prove me wrong, except if you're carefully following attach rate, which I don't expect you to do just yet.

5. Sega losing money is not proof, we all knew that. I'm just saying that making profit is nothing to celebrate. What is to celebrate is to make much profit. If that's what you meant, then we kindly agree here.

6. Viper 1 is your man.

2.Yeah but majority of the games are the same on ps3 and x360.Basicly i bought X360 for Bioshock and Mass Effect and PS3 for MGS4,Uncharted and overall Sony games(and Wii for Mario and Zelda but that's whole another story).i think you can put them in one bin because of similiarity of power and difference betwen Wii.Wii have really difrent games than the other two so we have 2 diffrent camps here.

4.yeah but you must agree that Wii is mostly about motion gaming and believe me that for majority of people that's the thing they bought it for.PS3 is super expensive as for 4,5 year console but it's worth it.and for lower price than 200$ it will be the beast for the price of steal.it depends on games you like but PS3 is for everyone because of the choice of games and the posibilities that it offers. And PS is big name.the most money comapny make is from software but after 6 years it's the hardware that gives them money because after this time everybody buys pre owned games.I believe that PS3 will be getting momentum and will keep from now as the best selling console of this gen.everybody have to admit that technicaly it impress ven today.

5.And i think what you say can hurt many people:) there where many companies that tried and console manufactering is really tough buisness.Only Nintendo and Sony had ever made Big money here.every one else either made some profit or they faild and lost big amounts of money.

It's hard to predict what will happen but we can't expext that Nintendo will win once again. They can also loose fans the same as Sony did.i want really close fight so the gamers will gain the most.

Sorry if some one can't understand me in these post but my future father-in-law camed 3 hours ago and you know Vodka and friends blocked my mind for a bit and writting now in foregin language can be a bit of a challange :)

I really enjoy those swap of arguments with inteligent people and not just 15 year old fanboys which only argument is "...because it is and you are stupid".I really understimated the VGC forums for 2 years and now i see that i should bee here for long time ago. ok so there it is 1. am in Poland so time to get some rest...

As for Nintendo and Sony making money, again try not to make a mixed bag there, as the scale of profits Nintendo makes from games alone (its sole market) is leaps and bounds ahead of Sony (ppl correct me if I'm wrong here).

Sony had about $5.3 billion in profits leading into the PS3.   That has wiped out $4.5 billion of those profits.  Sega had gained about $2.5 billion before launchign the Dreamcast.   That ate up almost $1 billion in losses itself and pushed Sega out of the hardware department.   Nintendo has gained over $20 billion since the Wii launched.  And has gained approximately $33 billion since launching the NES.  Right now, Nintendo has the highest profit to employee ratio of any major corporation on Earth.

They are certainly not dumb.

Imo Cafe wont mimick the same success of the Wii, but Nintendo will be fine.
