I now realise what Nintendos plan was this whole time. First off, stay away from the HD war and go your own way. Perhaps building a fan base along the way. Build a cheap but fun console that will draw people in, and make as much money as possibe.

When the time comes, use that money to build the next generation console that will blow people away, bringing your fan base with you. Build it at a time when the other console makers are unable to provide much of a compitition. And finally get your product out there first, let the customers see your console and when the other consoles catch up. The customers will see that their is not much of a difference and might as well go for the cheaper version with a larger library of games.....pure genious.

No worries, to each his own opinion. What i was trying to get to is this. We are at a point in time where (unfortunatly) games will not progress too far next gen. For starters we are stuck at 1080p probably for 5-10 years. Now...if Nintendo offers true 1080p games at 60 fps, real 3rd party support plus some weird controller that has everything on it...(which is all possible by the way). What can Sony and MS offer that will be noticeably different and will draw gamers away? By that time ....as i said. Cafe will be cheaper and have a bigger library. I know we are all used to Nintendo stinging out....but what if they don't this time? What if they go all out. Do me a favor an bookmark this page, come back and read it after E3.

The problem is that assumes the fanbase is that loyal, and the N64 showed a fanbase will not follow a console if they don't like the direction compared to the console that won them over.

Yes but remember the PS1 came out before N64. All fans were stunned with a brand new console brand AND a real console rocking a CD drive... This will be the opposite. Nintendo will be out first with the bells and whistles this time. All games 1080p and 60fps for the first time. A controller that will do.....um.....whatever it will do for the first time.

What? Gamers did not flock to the CD drive, or to bells and whistles. Third parties flock to those, but gamers flock to games. That's always been the case. The PS1 had better games with more appeal. That was how they beat Nintendo twice in a row. The tables turned this gen, but Nintendo going back to bells and whistles is what alienated gamers two generations in a row.

So acting like they will flock to this system, when history shows the opposite reaction to bells and whistles (games still sold the HD systems, not the HD graphics) just shows the same ignorance of gaming history that Nintendo is showing.

Sorry but i don't see it as you.For me Nintendo is releasing 7th generation console cause being on par with PS3 in terms graphics(in best scenario 2 times more powerful) don't give them anything.PS3/X360 will be cheaper then Cafe and will offer massive libriary of games so it will hold Cafe from selling and in 2012/2013 PS4 and X3 will come being 15-30 times more powerful than Cafe so i believe that Cafe will be stuck like Dreamcast did.Being more powerful than PS3/X360 but also being crushed by PS4/X3.Cafe will be most powerful only for a year and no one will make games to fully use it's capabilities for 2mln owners.Also i don't see Nintendo catching core gamers cause they will never make 1st party exclusives to compete with God of War,Gears of War,Gran Turismo,Halo or Uncharted.They will never make games with shiny graphics or for adult target only.

Ya 15-30 times more powerful?.....at least my point of view is logical....
