Forums - Gaming - First Alice Madness Returns Review is here. Aaaaaaand

The Official PlayStation Magazine seemingly has the first review of EA’s Alice: Madness Returns. And, to say the least, it wasn’t pretty.

The magazine cited quite a number of faults in the game. This paragraph in particular is rather damaging:

“A poor pace potholes the proceedings. The game lingers on its jumping puzzles, reveling in presenting us with open vistas that require navigation across partially invisible pathways, weighted platforms, billowing air vents, and ever-shifting floors. With this limited vocabulary, Alice chugs and chugs and chugs. Timing challenges are added and overdone, and some are additionally hampered by the need to shoot targets with a Pepper Grinder gun saddled with a manual aim system that is imprecise at best. The game tops off its overlong, overly gimmick-reliant platform navigation with heroine-crushing blocks, spiked platforms, and flame spitters. In the end, we’re not jumping and soaring across Wonderland but simply grinding it out.”

Although most of the review is harsh, it does contain a couple of positive remarks. The writer made note of the title’s ambitious nature and enjoyed its psycological element. However, in  the end, OPM gave the title a disappointing 5/10 score.

for shame

edit: sorry about the double post... on second thought this kinda deserves it... The abuse of one of the most creative literary licenses ever made by man has to stop. (the latest movie was just god-awful too).

Ouch that is a real shame, this was one of the game I was looking forward to....

if the Playstation mag is giving low score, there is no hope. OPM are usally in publishers pockets and throwing 10/10 left right an centre.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Even if the average ratings will be poor, I will still take a look at this game since the concept and art direction is superb.

Take a look at my photos on flickr

The review read like he was hating on the game because he wasn't very good at it. When did trap based platforming become a fault? It seems like he came into the game expecting to blow through the whole thing in a night or two, but instead he found that it was a challenging platformer and required concentration, patience and skill to get through. Basically, he expected Ratchet & Clank, but he got Demon's Souls instead and you know what? A lot of people liked Demon's Souls, so I'd wait for reviews from more reliable outlets like Eurogamer or Giant Bomb.

The day an 'official' console magazine becomes legitimate is the day I buy every exclusive and make sure that every heavily marketed game gets my money.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Aww.

meh doubt it's that bad.

the combat system didn't look that impressive to me either, but I think it will end up in the 75-83 range.

Aww I was actually kinda looking into this game (I think it was also coming out on PC?)
