I hate to get involved in graphics debates because I always get so annoyed at just how little the people I'm arguing with know but I don't see what I'm going to post as a graphics debate thing... just more a 'clearing the confusion' thing. So here I go...

I don't think d21 was suggesting it was the undisputed top of 2008 graphics. He was just responding to someone who earlier suggested that Gears 2 wasn't even near (keyword... that's why it's underlined) the top of console graphics tech at its release. Now you must agree that it's just ridiculous to say that when, bar MGS4 (which we kind of already successfully pointed out - ends up being sort of a preference thing), Gears 2 was right up there at the time. d21 was just giving a few examples to show that it was indeed considered up there at the time of release by citing some graphics awards it had won and saying that no game could possibly win one if it looked poor as quite a few members here are suggesting. And yes, IGN and Gamespot (and many others) did give it to MGS4 (d21 was wrong here) but at the same time Gametrailers and Gamespy (and many others) gave it to GeoW2. So they're both damn fine looking games.

Guten Tag Roomie!!!

Thanks for the assist, partner.  You and I should go for the tag team championship!

Well after the first one and the second one im tired of gears the multiplayer just fails in my opinion. I don't see how people enjoy shooting someone literally 50 times just to kill them.

Simple things please simple minds.

For someone who came down on another poster for sharing their opinion ill-versed opinion, you really aren't helping the situation...

That post was not directed at Gears, I have never played it, so I can't judge. The comment was aimed at generic shooters in general, I didn't even have Gears of War in my mind when I made that comment.

And I came down hard on "him" because his ignorant post came completely out of the blue and he was insulting not only my favourite genre but a lot of other people's favourite genres too. The only things I am insulting are complete idiots, NOT gears fans.

Same thing applies. You could voice your opinion on the matter in a less condescending tone.

The difference is, nobody cares, generic shooters are a common enemy. I'm not even talking about Call of Duty or Halo, I am talking about the REALLY bad (yet surprisingly popular) games that are completely degrading gaming and usually end up with a 60 on metacritic.

I liked the trailer, but then you know, I like the series, so I'm predisposed to enjoying advertisments for it.

That being said, while I love Sabbath, and I think the music does go very good with this trailer, it doesn't quite have the same resonance that the Mad World trailer had.

The Mad World trailer was simply the best (IMO) and nothing for any other series, or any other trailer in this series has quite had the same... "je nais se quoi" that the Gears 1 trailer did.

Regardless, my life has been an empty shell since the Gears 3 beta has left me, and I've found no game worthy to replace her.

My sole gripe is the influx of people who just can't help but go out of their way to try and attack something that people love.  I find myself doing it, too.  Lately, I've been able to find a little bit of self restraing (not all the time) and just not post anything if I don't have anything good to say.

I mean, look at the "Gears of War 3 Campaign Trailer" article on gamrFeed (not sure if it's on the front page, anymore.).  One guy made the comment "Compare it to the Killzone 3 Story trailer.  Not even close! LOL!" or something like that.  Why would 360 owners looking at a glimpse of the campaign of the most anticipated game of the year for that system care about a PS3 exclusive FPS?  What did a comment like that have to do with anything?

I'll let it be.  It's just that Gears is probably in my top 3 franchises this gen.  It provided me with too many good times and I have a hard time sitting idely by while people try to trash it.

I would just like you to know, I wasn't trying to piss on Gears of War 3's bonfire, I was just debating about the graphics.

The game however is something I am very interested in and I will definately look into the first two.

You're assuming no one cares. They may be a common enemy to you but may be a great source of entertainment to someone else. As you yourself stated, they are popular and that happens for a reason. You calling the people who enjoy such experiences "idiots" is no different than what Lyrikalstylez was doing.

And we're in a Gears thread where people are talking about the Gears gameplay formula. You commenting on GuiltySpartan's post the way you did, you're commenting about Gears. But sure go on ahead and back-peddle and get defensive and such and enjoy your constructive time at VGChartz.

Of course, this conversation is as constructive as peddling a bike backwards. I'm done with it. Respond as you will I'll leave you be with w/e else goes on in this thread.

trash out

Well it's HIGHLY unlikely that someone would care, but if they did then I will stand by my word. I can tolerate preferences and opinions but I have my limits. I have absolutely no respect for people that are entertained by repeatedly shooting someone in the face. Just because something is popular doesn't mean you can't criticise it, the Nazi's were pretty popular back in the day, are we not allowed to criticise them? And what I said was VERY different from what "he" said (I wouldn't name him if I were you).

The difference is, "he" named something in specific, I didn't, I just used a negative term. That means that people can interpret what I said in any way that they want to, I did that to avoid insult, but obviously, this being a Gears of War thread, people thought I was talking about the Gears franchise which I wasn't, I didn't even have that in mind when I said that, hence the reason why I "back-peddled". And I know this will sound stupid, but there are "good" things and "bad" things. People can still have opinions, I might not like something which is considered "good", but I can still respect other peoples preferences and most importantly, I keep my mouth shut. When I said "generic shooters", there is no way that people can interpret that "generic shooters" can be a good thing.

I will leave it up to them to interpret what a "generic shooter" is, but in the end, none of this was directed at the Gears of War ® franchise, hence the reason why I quickly corrected my post after reading it. I think you have turned this into more of an overcomplicated argument than it needed to be.

And I advise you take your trash back in, collection was yesterday.

Haters 'gonna hate.  Gears 2 won numerous "Best Graphics 2008" awards from respected sites like Gametrailers, IGN, and Gamespot.  It didn't do that by looking like crap.  Some people just can't help themselves.  We wait a long time to see a gameplay trailer, like what we see, and people that don't like the series, never liked the series, and don't even have 360's come to the thread to try and diminish the impact.

As I said before, the game looks stunning.  I saved the trailer to my phone and my 360 (now available for download on Xbox Live) and I just can't stop watching it.  Who cares if the game doesn't live up to the expectations of people who "don't get it"?  In September, millions and millions of gamers are going to be extremely satisfied.

IGN and Gamespot actually gave the best graphics award to MGS4. I'm not hating at all, but to say Gears of War 2 is the undisputed 2008 graphics...well, I just don't agree.

What!?  This looks like a job for google!!  As for the bolded part, it's cool that you don't agree but I never said that.  Everybody has opinions and that's cool.

*edit*  I meant Gamespy when I said Gamespot http://goty.gamespy.com/2008/special/index.html

*edit*  I meant IGN when I said IGN http://games.ign.com/articles/893/893833p4.html (unfortunately, that was just E3, 2008)

Lmao, I was a little vague. It wasn't meant as lashing out at you or the sort, just wanted to clear up my stance on the whole issue. I don't know why, but I insist on explaining my viewpoint when I'm lumped in between a debate about an issue, and one guy comes in and makes a generalization about the nay sayers.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Oh I understood completely what he meant, I just didn't phrase it well. See my response to him and you'll understand what I mean.

Graphics = Underwhelming, seriously falling behind from what used to be such a graphical powerhouse of GoW1. And this is with an extra 6 months in polishing.

Gameplay on the otherhand is already a 10/10 just due to the fact that it'll be slightly more paced than Gears 2.

This is just the beta and the retail campaign in full will look lot better.

That looks really nice I know, and no...it won't look 'alot' better in fact it'll look practically the same. I've already seen the trailer in the original post and those graphics are final so I and everyone else who has seen that trailer know what to expect.

That aside, the textures do look really good, kind of artsy but not realistic. When you look at these screenshots you can tell very easily that it's a video game and that's because everything looks like it's made out of clay, especially the characters. Honestly, fast forward the trailer in the OP to :25 and look at the guys face (best example I could find), it's underwhelming I'm sorry that's just my opinion.

The majoirty disagrees with you and Brenden and since when was Gears ever about realism anyway?
