Capcom outlined plans for the coming fiscal year earlier today, upping support for PS3/360 with a drop for the Nintendo Wii, 3DS and DS.

The Japanese publisher, known for Street Fighter, Mega Man and Resident Evil expects to sell 18 million pieces of software across 55 titles and various handheld, console, PC and other platforms. The PS3 and Xbox 360 both see an increase in the number of titles on the way, presumably sharing most as cross-platform.

The DS/3DS together see a slight drop in the number of games on the way, but an increase in projected sales.

The Wii sees a significant drop this year with only two titles being made and an expected 200,000 units to be sold.

(Last year's titles and sales in brackets)

  • PS3: 16 titles, 8 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
  • X360: 14 titles, 4.7 million units (11 / 4.2 million)
  • DS/3DS: 9 titles, 2.4 million units (11 / 1.7 million)
  • PSP: 11 titles, 2.2 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
  • PC/Other: 3 titles, 500,000 units (3 / 500,000)
  • Wii: 2 titles, 200,000 units (5 / 1.4 million)

good decision , lol

the wii is a too casual console

Actually they expect to ship more copies for their 3DS games (the previous report even includes the shipments for SSFIV I think), just less games, but their support increases. For the Wii, that was obvious, but Capcom should be in line from first week of Cafe.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Surprised 3DS went up after getting their fingers burnt with SSFIV3D, not surprised by the rest though.

Wait, they had 3DS/Wii support?

Something never ends adding up when it comes to Capcom and the amount of games they say they will release for each platform. I think they count budget re-releases as new games, otherwise it will never add up. BTW there are no more Wii games announced, just 2 budget re-releases which will never sell 200k units. Max 20k in Japan. Unless of course the number also takes into account games being shipped during the year, in which case RE4 Wii edition might be one of the games.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I've been missing Capcom, I have been playing PS3 mostly and I haven't seen a great game on that console from them yet. I'm eagerly awaiting the RE4 and RECV remakes!

wii is a no brainer .. development should already be moving to cafe.  3DS looks healthy enough to me but it's a bit hard to tell since it is reported as DS/3DS.

Wii being dropped is a given, not that it was supported all that much. 3DS, however, is jumping the gun I think.

they never really supported the Wii, so no surprise there

the only big Wii title was MH3

dropping 3DS support is very bad for Nintendo

Nintendo wants 3DS to be 50-50, so Capcom is essential!!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
