loves2splooge said: Japan is not that crazy about home console Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter on the Wii sold "only" a million. Yes "only". Because Monster Hunter is huge on the PSP. Monster Hunter was a success in Japan because it was a game you played with friends, acquaintances and even complete strangers on the go. The portable nature of Monster Hunter provides it with a social experience you can't quite replicate with a home console version. Yeah you can play online with a home console or invite people over to your house to play but it's just not the same. This is also why Pokemon is huge on the Nintendo portables and why the main Pokemon series will always be on the handhelds. The whole appeal of Pokemon when I was a kid was that you'd see some stranger playing Pokemon Red/Blue during recess (lol) and then you'd either challenge him/her to a battle just like in the Pokemon anime that was popular at the time or ask to trade Pokemon. |
I agree Japan is not going to fall for this unless the add even new content. Then you have the NPG version coming also. So I doubt people are going to buy 3 different versions of the same game. Unless Sony makes it were you can transfer across the platforms if you already own it.
Now for the westerner markets this is a good move. Since we are more likley to buy the home console version. You know we don't buy PSP games So this is more of the US than Japan. Sony figures they can get them to buy consoles, and us to buy PSP games.
