Both Iwata and the guy who has worked on Zelda since OoT (I forget his name, Ejie Anouma or something similar) said several years ago they have a complete timeline for Zelda and that they intend to keep it private.
meh, could care less. I just play the game and focus on saving the princess as well as the citizens of Hyrule over and over again. Can't wait to do it in December.
There definately is a timeline but it's a bit messed because of Miyamoto, numerous writer and confusing retconning and so forth. I think that from now on we are going to see every zelda game linked to each other, but linking the really old ones together will always be problematic

Glug...this thread made me go read through a bunch on the theories on Zeldapedia. Now my head hurts.
I don't think there is much in the way of really putting every single game into a cohesive narrative. Not yet anyway. I agree that if/when Nintendo wants a clear timeline, they can place some new games in to fill holes.

Saw this on Zeldawiki, even though I'm not deeply interested, I'd like to see what timeline they come up with it. But Like Dan said, if we they told us the official timeline, then the "legend" is lost for ever!
