Forums - Sony - I understand Xbox 360, but why is the PS3 doing so lousy in Japan?

Japan has always chosen one console and the others have been overlooked.  Don't know why but their culture seems to be more about the "in" thing.  And the Wii is that.  I'll be surprised if the PS3 sells greater than 50% of the Wii consistently.  Besides the size thing which has already been brought up.

Horrible troll thread. But what do you expect from eugene.

The PS3 is selling fine in JP. It has been sellng what the Wii was selling for most of the second half of the year in the recent months, and it's been selling fine.

its simple. they dont hav some blockbuster games to push the console in this holiday.

Oh come on, you really aren't going to have "size" as a factor. Seriously. The Playstation 3 is not too big for a house. Come on. Think about that. Do you know how big houses are? You could fit 30 Playstation 3 consoles in the smallest Japan house closet. Come on...

People are acting like the PS3 is the size of piano made for a concert. OMG it wont fit in the house!!

It's the Piano Black finish. They should have painted it Harmonica Silver or Ukulele Brown.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

My opinion is that the fanbase & general public are taking the "dont buy the PS3 untill the big games out"-approach. That, and the Wii price is probably a good factor aswell.

More than likely we won't see people buying more PS3's untill the likes of MGS4 makes a dive, and finally gets released.

But I also believe that its due to the hardcore base being split into the 360 supporters and PS3 supporters. If that crowd merged, the sales would be strong.

i don't think MGS is a such a strong brand in Japan: 850k for the PS2 can't be seen as a "great" success...any given year konami sells twice as much of its winning11/pes

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

44.2 M 27.1 M 20.8 M

the japanese love smalls things, that's for sure
but that's nothing for sony to be afread of
the ps2 was big too when it came out
and sony is an experienced japanese company
if someone knows what the japanese would or would't take in their house it's sony
you could say

''Hadouken!''

People in japan read books on their mobile phones because they don't have enough place to buy books and put it in their house so yes "size' could be a factor I don't think so but I can understand that some of them have problems to put it in their house.

I'm confident the ps3 will recover just fine. Besides a couple of months ago 50k seemed outstanding but now that the ps3 is doing so much better 50k is very poor. Yes I realize it's the holiday season however considering it hasn't got many Japan targeted games and is still expensive I think it has recovered nicely and when good games start arriving and more frequently the ps3 should start selling much better.

I think it is more the handel systems like the DS. They love those even more then the Wii!

No its not pimpcoop.

Its because of its price. Also no good rpg's. Once Final fantasy and GT5 comes out with another price cut.
