I thought the original Xbox was pretty good for it's time in regards to the Live integration, on board hard drive storage etc. But agreed Dreamcast was one of a kind, but didn't catch on, even worse so than the original xbox.

I agree. and I feel like the Xbox started to realize it's potential at the end of it's life. Live started becoming popular, and it came out with a few really impressive games, graphically. (I always think of trying Ninja Gaiden.. it looked so good. In fact it was practically comparable to a lot of PS3 launch titles)

And that was only the tip of the iceberg, after the manufacturing was cut , I wonder what would have been the peak for the original Xbox, taking into account that PS2 hasn't peaked at least until FF12, as many people claim. Overall I think 360 is more of a bigger brother of the original Xbox, with the improvements taken into account on the things that the original excelled at.

PS3!!!!!!!

it could be soo much bigger ^^

Dreamcast by far, I want to buy one today just to own one of the least appreciated consoles ever

PS3 of course,it could have been the biggest thing in history if Sony would have played their cards right.

PS3? Are people serious? Possible 10 year life cycle is not enough to realize the potential? Do you know why DC and Xbox are mentioned? Because both were discontinued less than 5 years into their life cycle.

Also it's not discontiniued with a possibility of 5 more years of life left in it, so I don't see where these answers are coming from :/.

Not flaming the opinions, just finding it hard to comprehend where they arise from.

Notice the past tense in the thread title.

OT:

Yeah, the Dreamcast could've been soooo much more. But I can only imagine how great the Saturn would've been if it had actually ever gotten to its feet.

If SEGA wouldn't have fucked around with Sonic Xtreme, and had just released some proper Sonic games like this for the Saturn, it really could've been something.

Iirc, the Saturn was originally designed for 2D games, but jumped on the 3D bandwagon after being spooked out by Sony, when they showed the PlayStation. But if they had just kept their cool, it could've been a haven for 2D gaming. But, then again, pretty much nobody wanted to create 2D games that gen, (Part of the reason why I don't like gen 5 so much) so maybe not.

The Dreamcast was a pioneer for online console gaming and the small LCD screen on the controller was a innovative feature with practical use (for eg. I believe with the NFL 2K games you could construct your plays right on your controller so that your buddy playing against you wouldn't be able to see what play you are going to go with.)

The Dreamcast was doomed though. When it came out, most of the PS1 gamers thought, "hmm, I'll wait for the PS2." I had a few buddies in highschool that did pick up a Dreamcast because it was significantly cheaper than the PS2 at the time and had solid exclusives (the Canadian dollar was awful back then. $1 US = $1.50 Canadian back then. A PS2 was $450 Canadian at launch whereas a Dreamcast was no more than $300 Canadian at launch. Maybe less. And the Dreamcast had price cuts). And then those buddies got a PS2 afterwards. Sega was pretty much fucked. I don't know if there was anything they could do to survive as a platform maker. Maybe if they operated on a much smaller scale they would have generated a profit serving a niche. Much like Neo Geo did for so many years.

Agreed. It would have been nice if it was allowed to survive, but at least its  legacy continued, unlike the dreamcast

the wii definatly

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

wii of course if the console had decent third parties support we might have had some really awesome games but we ended up with crappy waggle fest games

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
