Forums - Gaming - Midway should give up on the Story Mode already

For Mortal Kombat, it Finally looks like the gameplay have been fixed and the 3D models have gotten aesthetically comparable to 2D sprites from it's prime. But I still see a glaring problem that keeps Mortal Kombat from regaining the coolness it once had. The Story Mode.

When will Midway accept that they suck at telling stories. They can't even pick decent voice actors or write proper scenes without hamming it up with cheesy dialog. Even if they could, I don't need them to. Why would I want to watch a cutscene when I could kick some a** instead? They should stick to getting the mythological setting and elements right and leave the story telling to the player.

Did this game have a story mode? NO, and it doesn't need one!

Midway isn't around anymore dude...

If you're talking about the Netherrealms Mortal Kombat, it's by far my favorite part of the game. Hearing reviewers bitch about it being cheesy is idiocy; the reason cheesy is frowned upon is because normally it decreases the value of a story. If the story is made even more entertaining for it, there is no reason is complain about B-rating attributes to it.

Its like this for any normally "bad" writing mechanic. Even cliches can be used to great effect under the right circumstances.

That said, the story is by no means perfect, or even all that great. But it craps on every other fighting game's story out there.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Midway didn't make the new Mortal Kombat, and the story mode is awesome besides. You should give up on making threads already.

I agree with the great god Badgenome.

The problem is with you..not DarkRealm Studios

you are taking the story mode to seriously..this is a fighting game not a RPG its not suppose to oscar worthy. Story modes in fighting games is just to give the characters more soul and a reason for a continued fighting thats it and most importantly for fun..thats it.

SoulCalibur II has the BEST story mode ever for a fighter...but not because it had had a good story it but because it was fun.

same with tekken..cheesy stories   Pual has a rivalry with a Bear!!??.....but its entertaining

I think the story was good :), I am not a big fan of the universe so my knowledge about the characters is minimal but seeing Kabal, the identity of Noob Saibot was nice :).

If your other 827 posts sucked as much as this one, I am glad I missed them.

I like the MK games story modes. At least the 3d open world ones. Convoluted plots and ridiculous fetch quests aplenty, but if you like MK then it's all good.

Man fuck all that, if anything all fighting games should do a story mode.

I am the Playstation Avenger.
