I've played about 50 hrs with no problems, then it started freezing everytime I try to get through Miga Insect Warren, during battles. Like everytime. Requires a hard start..

...and it doesn't happen with everyone. Complaints to Square-enix/Tri-ace seem to only yield an automated response and that's it. Tried all sorts of random shit like changing resolution etc. The only thing left to do is reinstall or whatever, and while it doesn't mean i'll lose my saves, who's to say that the saves are not causing it anyway? Might have to delete the save for 'trying' sake, and tbh I don't want to have to do all that over again.

Anyone else had this problem by chance? I have a 120gb PS3 slim.

I don't have Star Ocean but I do have Resonance of Fate, which is another tri-Ace game. I had some freezing issues in Silver Canyon... it only freezes in the Silver Canyon "World Map" when a random battle is about to begin.

I searched "Resonance of Fate freezing" on google and found a lot of people complaining about it. Some people never had any issues with the game and some other people couldn't even get to the first chapter in the game because it always freezes, even after formatting the HDD and replacing the game for another copy of it.

Luckily, it only happened in Silver Canyon for me so I just didn't go there anymore because I don't need to and the game hasn't had any freezing issues anymore (touches wood).

It seems to be a tri-Ace problem... the bad thing is that they don't even know about it and no one has found a way to stop the problem from happening other than buying a new PS3. I assume no one has found any solution for the Star Ocean freezing either.

You could try backing up your HDD (Since the SO save data is copy protected >_>), formatting your PS3 and then restore the backup. Go to that place where the freezing happens and see if it still occurs. If it does, try to borrow a copy of the game from a friend or something, if it still happens then... I don't know, I think there's nothing else you can do... I doubt you'd want to buy a new PS3 just because that specific game freezes.

Ouch, I played Star Ocean: TLH for about 100 hours and never one freeze. :/

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

I've always been a bit paranoid of losing stuff if I do a backup, reformat, restore. If I reformat, do I lose local trophy & account data etc? And backup...does it backup game & save data?

Unfortunately i don't know anyone else where I live with the game, and since this is the only game that freezes, I highly doubt it's the PS3.

tri-Ace has to be aware of the problem, 'specially when you look at the amount of threads complaining about their customer support, which are just automated responses apparently.

Everything was going so smoothly...50 plus hours in I tell ya.

I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling because I'm not sure of the consequence. Would I lose stuff? start over? Do I do a backup to avoid losing everything? If I have to do a backup & restore, then the same questions I have in the post above would apply.

Uninstalling the game data from the hard drive shouldn't harm your save file at all. The only thing you lose is the time it takes to reinstall the game itself.

I had the same problem in another dungeon, doesnt seem to be the same place for everyone. Tried deleting/reinstalling date and didnt work. I did change the save slot the file was in that i was playing though and it never froze again. I was around 100 hrs when it started for me and at that point had never had 1 freeze whatsoever. Very wierd issue that seems to be sooooooo random.

If you look through my post history, this was my biggest issue with the game. Once I got to the second disc, I averaged one freeze per 2 hours of gameplay. Due to somewhat sparse savepoints, it made a bad game even more frustrating to play.

EDIT: I was playing the game on the 360. I did install the game on my HDD to try and make it better, but there was no major difference.

I actually had numerous freezing problems when playing the original Xbox version.  With the PS3 version i have over 130 hours and almost 4000 battles and haven't had a single problem.  My brother also played through the entire game with no problems.

I wonder if the issue stems from individual copies of the game.  Some discs might just be "bad".
