Forums - Nintendo - Wii sold more than 1,000,000 this week WW

If Nintendo keeps selling like this, John Lucas will be right, and that keeps me confused and scaried '-'

If production remains 1.8 million a month and demand remains unmet, 2008 will see 21.6 million more Wiis produced, minimum. Assuming 10% stockpiling per month average between January and November (quite a normal tactic), that would mean that most weeks we should see around 400,000 consoles sold worldwide. Again, this is assuming both constant production rates and demand not being met. 2007 is likely to end around 18.66 to 18.75 million Wiis, meaning 40.26 to 40.35 million consoles total sold by the end of 2008 under such conditions. That's almost 20 million short of Lucas' prediction. It's also borderline worst-case scenario and assumes a completely stagnant production schedule.

since Nintendo usually makes conservative estimates, lets take 1,800,000 as the minimum number of units they can make in a month. Assuming they pay people to work overtime, and they crank these things out as fast as possible, making up the missing 350,000 units over 5 months turns out to be an actual total of only 70,000 more units per month. Or in other words only ~4% more production than what they stated as their current rate.

...ah, but there is still another week remaining this month - they'd have to sell '0' next week in order to remain only 350k over.

Just like every other console, the Wii is going to experience a drop-off in sales next week. Quite likely the worldwide total for it will be sub-600,000 (if I had to guess, I'd say lower than that, even). That's still not much more than their minimum production estimate, though. And that's also assuming that they've only stockpiled since August, which seems unlikely given what we know of Nintendo's practices.

Let's not forget that now is the time Japan takes off! Close to the New Year and the whole of January.

So I'd say, ~250k in Others + ~150k America + ~250k Japan = ~650k worldwide which is not that shabby!

probably 450K ww

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I guess I have a very Nintendo-like outlook on sales numbers: hope for the best, but be ready for the worst. While the holiday season technically isn't over worldwide until early to mid January, the biggest part of the season for holiday sales is always the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas. It's pretty much the only holiday that's guaranteed to generate higher sales across all territories. And again, the supply constraint issue comes to mind. Inevitably, their stockpile is mostly depleted from the huge sales of the last 4 weeks.

Incredible for the Wii. Is this the first million + week?

What was John Lucas's prediction for year end Wii sales total? Just wondering, because with the rate it is going, seems like it could hit a crazy prediction that JL would have come up with!!?!

Currently Playing:

Changing channels with my voice: priceless!!!

Wow, those are some high numbers! Would have been cool to see Wii outsell DS in at least one region... But still pretty impressive for a supply constrained console.

I just wan't to ask something.............

DS: +2.000.000
