I've read pretty much every post in this thread and all I have to say is: "Fuck AT&T." Bandwidth isn't a natural resource. We create it and we should have unlimited of it. It's not hard to get a bigger server. My brother plays a shit ton of WoW and I'm always on YouTube or battle.net and Steam chewing up bandwidth because that's what you do on the internet. It's a bunch of shit that they think they can get away with this. We shouldn't be getting capped by a "resource" that we can have unlimited of.

That's just it. Bandwidth is NOT unlimited. It requires hardware, electricity, and loads of other goodies (not including maintenance/monitoring labor). Ever seen how much power a small server farm requires? They consume more juice than the entire Empire State Building, and that's just for a modest one-or-two level farm.

Why do people think this stuff is free? IT'S NOT.

Seeing that they had record profits before they introduced the cap just shows there is no need to introduce it. It's just another reason to suck down  your money. The point that it's 250 now but it will slowly go down. Next thing you now passing 20 gigs is going to cost you a arm and a leg. Not only that but this fee was started after record profits, so they never needed the extra money. They decided to slip it in now, so that in the future you will be getting used to being screwed over. So when they keep lowering it every year. We have people like you to blame that support this. Eventually it will effect everyone and thats the point. You know how this goes or by the way your talking you don't. It's a extra charge and from here on out it can only get worse. I pay a 60 f'ing dollars a month. If I want to download over 250 Gigs I f'ing should because I usually don't use sh-t and the point being that the option is on the table. specially that there making a sh-t load off of us already. So when you keep supporting fee's like this, then you are to blame for all the f'ing fee's that are out of control that started in the past and then just grew like a disease.

If one of them keeps lowering the cap, someone else will pop up and offer an uncapped service for the same price. It's how the free market works.

Cell phones have worked under this system for years just fine. Why are so many people complaining about the top 1% of users getting slapped with extra fees? It's how it SHOULD be in a free market. Use more, pay more. Get the fuck over it. I make my living from the internet and I don't even fall under that 1% category so stop acting as if these companies are being unfair about their cap limits.

Comcast started charging, then AT&T. so what is that showing? Following suit. So if one gets away with lowering it, the other will. Just like the mandatory internet fee's on phones. You have to have a internet plan now of days, even if you never use it.  So that show that everone follows suit. Free market is f'ed and rules and regulations have been stripped down to nothing allowing for corperate scum to get away with murder, on there workers, the ecconomy and then not paying any taxes.

No one is forcing you to buy the phone itself and the reason they force a data package on you is because they're SUBSIDIZING THE PHONE. The only way the carrier recoups that money is from that data plan you hate so much.

Don't like it? Go buy an unlocked phone for $600 and take it to your carrier du jour. Problem solved.

Companies are capping users because 1% of the population is using over 20% of the bandwidth. If the companies get greedy and drop that limit to, say, 100GB and impact enough users to piss them off, those users will bail to another company that doesn't offer capped internet usage. You're not really thinking this through very thoroughly.

The only people I see complaining about this are the people who steal every fucking thing they can find on the Internet. That is pretty much the ONLY way a 250GB cap is going to affect you. You're using far more service than the average user for the same amount of money. What gives you the right to abuse the system and slow down everyone else without having to pay more?

I'll have to agree with rocketpig on this one. If you are going to download more than 250gb a month, then you should pay more than those who don't. It's common logic. It's not like bandwidth is an infinite resource.
