Forums - Sales - Have any AAA 3rd party Wii games bombed?

@psrock  i agree with you except for 5 million. isnt that a bit much??? my your definition the Wii only has one AAA game MHTRI. IMHO i think 1mil is more realistic

Just Dance 2 probably cost more to make than Bayonetta, it was advertised more than Assassins Creed: Brotherhood and it's sold more than both of them, but I bet no one in here would consider it a AAA game. Just because a game doesn't fit your personal perception of what a AAA game is (which seems to be games the poster themselves like), it doesn't make it one or doesn't not make it one.

Red Steel 2 was a true AAA Third Party bomb. It was advertised very well, especially in Australia which is a country that rarely sees game ads outside of COD and Nintendo products, it was developed by the massive team that is Ubisoft Paris, who are also well known for developing the Tom Clancy games, the Rayman games and Just Dance and it was very well reviewed. I've seen it playing and I can honestly say that it's an extremely polished game, it's visuals are among the best on the system and it had around 2.5 years on development.

Just because it is short, it doesn't make it any less of a quality product. Alan Wake is like seven hours long and it's sold much better with much less advertising.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

For example:

No More Heroes 1 and 2

The Last Story Bombed.

Xenoblade (Could become pretty popular once released worldwide but Japanese sales were disappointing) In line with others new IP's.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (The Wii version was made independently from the other versions and was highly advertised) No.

Madworld (Managed to sell well at a 9,99$ price point but it certainly didn't bring them much money as they most likely overshipped a lot) For a new IP in a soccer moms console, sold very well.

Little King's Story

Zack & Wiki

Dead Space Extraction Not sure about this...

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories The other versiones sold a lot better than Wii version?

Red Steel 2 Super bomba...

On the other hand, they are plenty of bad games that did awesome on the Wii lol

Why not PoP?

@doobie woop how do you know if it was polished if you've never played?? that makes no sense. i played Just Dance 1 adn the controls blew. and how do you get is cost more to make than Bayonetta? A dance game? Voice acting alone in Bayonetta... i mean the only thing that would cost in Just Dance is the music licenses

It was going to be AAA but lost 1 A along the way.

Do you really want a list?

If you could.

For example:

No More Heroes 1 and 2

The Last Story

Xenoblade (Could become pretty popular once released worldwide but Japanese sales were disappointing)

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (The Wii version was made independently from the other versions and was highly advertised)

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Red Steel 2

None of those REALLY count as AAA IMO though...

What's the difference between Epic Mickey and these?

Epic Mickey had 400 people working on them, heavily advertised and hyped, had prolific people working behind them, in development for many years and was a landmark game, highly successful both commercially and financially.

None of these games were. Most were niche or ports, and sold accordingly.

You are very wrong.

Okay I guess No More Heroes, Little King's Story and Zack & Wiki don't actually meet the criteria for highly advertised but all the others were.

Sorry, but I never saw none of these titles advertised on TV. Those are AA titles but not AAA. Monster Hunter Tri is the most clear example because I don't think there are much more high quality games from 3rd parties on the Wii.

Dead Space Extraction

you're kidding right?

Besides the fact that this is insulting (not your aim as you're actually discussing the thread topic), the best proof that this is not a AAA title is.... Dead Space and Dead Space 2. In no way are the production values of the 3 on the same scale.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I don't understand the fourth rule. Why would only games of certain genres count as AAA?

Also, I'd add sales expectations as a factor. Personally I wouldn't call a game Triple-A unless it's expected to sell atleast 1.5-2 million.

Look as we have previously said, the definition of AAA is subjective.

The point is, the game bombed.
