Forums - Nintendo - What Project Café means for a core Nintendo fan

I think HD will be good for the die hard nintendo fans but i dont it will do as well as the wii has done sales wise. I think Nintendo needs to start making need ip's for there fans cause i dont think Mario and Zelda are gonna cut it next gen. If they want there console to compete agianst Sony and M$ Next gen there are gonna have to investing on new studios and franchises.

Also if Nintendo is learning anything from the 3DS they should know that they should not give a there next gen console a name that could make the mass consumer have second thoughts. The average person that looks at the 3DS just thinks of it as a DS with 3D. So if Nintendo makes a name like *WiiHD* or *Wii2* I dont think it will perform very well for the mass market.

Overall I think Nintendo next console could be big Only if it get's some good games at launch and if they get some 3rd party support. I also think they should consider getting a new disc format since both the Wii and Gamecube Disc space was both less than 9GB. I will also be wondering rather or not they will make there own speical online service...    :)

I'm with you. They also do need a new IP, not a casual one. For example: Uncharted, Infamous, and God of War-but with a Nintendo touch to it. They should make it stand out; innovative like many Super Mario games. I've heard that the new online service for Nintendo would be called 'Stream' not the console.

You were taken in by the misleading thread title. Please note that the original headline differs from the one used by CGI-Quality. The hardcore Nintendo fan couldn't care less about the games you mentioned.

They would if the graphics were realistic.. Nobody likes being scorned by a low-poly model:

This is more like it:

That's because you are a blind fanboy.

Seriously, think about it. Someone just said "HD" and you went gaga over a mockup picture, because it must be awesome, if it is in HD. There's a circle shadow, for god's sake.

Not a total blind Zelda fanboy. I didn't care much for Choo Cho Zelda.

That game wasn't in HD, so this helps my argument more than your defense.

I have nothing to defend against.

Why are you so bitter lately?

Oh and by the way, that is NOT a circle shadow!

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

As nintendo said, Hd is a given so that means they are still going to focus on gameplay, I like the idea of a new system because that will result on more inmersive and bigger games, better AI etc...

To be honest, I am super excited that the graphics are somewhat cutting-edge for this new console.

As a result of the Wii's low graphical power, it got none of the games I could play alongside my brothers...who I've played with my entire life.

When Nintendo was powerful in comparison to the competition, I got to play No Mercy and Day of Reckoning. With the Wii being so underpowered, developers made none of the games we as a whole bought the system for.

In 2012, when I buy the Cafe/N6/Hale whatever, I want to be able to know I don't need to buy another console too just to play decent games. I did not get a PS2 until about 3 years after I got my Gamecube; Xbox1 was about 1 year.

And I would be a bold-faced liar if I said that the thought of a StarFox HD with 3D WOULDNT MAKE ME CRAP MY PANTS, SHED 1000 TEARS, AND CONSUME EONS OF MY TIME.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Ok so now you're a Nintendo fan? Well I guess the future of Project Cafe is promising then...

wait...graphics = gameplay??

where have I been??

If you know anything about Nintendo, it would be that no matter how much power they have, their games are still fun and engaging to pick up and play.

The author wasn't trying to say that graphics = gameplay. He just emphasizes his excitement that Nintendo may finally be back in the game next gen. By "back in the game", he means not ignored by 3rd party companies and high-def graphics may just be what gets the foot in the door.

Lets look at where the 3rd parties flocked.

NES, Snes, PS1, PS2, DS

Most power

Master System, Mega Drive, N64, Xbox, PS3

Correlation does not imply causation, but lack of correlation does not imply causation either.

Fact is, the Wii's lack of 3rd party support had nothing to do with lack of power, and it will not be rectified by an increase in power. The Wii was initailly given only token support because the consensus amongst analysts was that it would bomb, selling less than the GC. After it took off (well, a few years after, analysts and producers are pretty unwilling to admit their mistakes), 3rd parties brought a lot of games to the Wii. Unfortunately, developers didn't have a clue who actually owned a Wii, or what sort of games they wanted. They lacked the intelligence required to even copy Nintendo, and so their attempts to do so failed. Seeing poor sales, most developers did not want to put effort into Wii games, so they didn't. As a result, sales continued to stay low.

I didn't say they needed the most power, just power that could keep up with it's competitors.

The Wii had enough power to keep up with it's competitors. If it didn't, it would not have sold well.

Ignoring insignificant developers like id and crytek, find examples of developers or publishers saying that they are scaling back or stopping development for the Wii because it is not powerful enough.

Trust me, you will not find any. You will find all the big developers that stopped supporting the Wii did so because their shitty games weren't selling.
