$129 seems to be the unofficial price in Canada now for 4GB Xbox.

This which is an amazing deal going on right now.

Either MS is trying to take advange of PSN being down and/or testing to see their sales effect at that low price.

I was looking at Sony's price cuts for the PS2 (was quite surprised!) and wondered what the VGChartz community could gauge from them when it comes to how Microsoft is going to price cut the X360, given its model is going to follow closer to PS2 than Xbox or Gamecube.

PS2
Oct 2000 -$299.99
May 2002 - $199.99
May 2003 - $179.99
May 2004 - $149.99
April 2006 - $129.99
April 2009 - $99.99

X360 (Baseline price)
Nov 2005 - $299.99
August 2008 - $279.99
August 2009 - $199.99

Microsoft obviously likes its price cuts few and far between, if they followed the same model/timeframe as Sony with the PS2, they'd be at $99.99 by now, but it's a safe bet they're going to cut this year. I thought a $129 cut would be on the cards to take them to 2013 720 launch, then a cut to $99 to last till 2015. But given it took Sony 4 cuts to get to $99, I'm not sure MS will do it in two.  $149 > $129 > $99 doesn't seem like a good idea to me though ...

your surprised? and wondered what the VGC community thinks when it comes to just MS is that all you care about?

what about what the other two consoles are going to do why does it just have to be about MS only in here?

i would like to see the 4gb axed and replaced with the 250gb at $199 i think that would have the biggest impact b/c to me its the most desired console for the majority of the people who purchase that console and SW for it, and its the best money for the value.  It also would be the only way to do a  big jump down in price its currently at 299 and a HDD enabled sku has been for 299 and up for a while, and i dont see them droping the arcade down by $100 this yr to give off that wow factor of a 100 price drop.  I can see everything just gettin a $50 cut and then another 50 in 2 yrs to bring it down to the $99 mark

i would of liked to talk about the PS3s and Wiis strategy and how each 3 could affect each other aswell but can't in here

oh and the core was changed to arcade and offered @ 280 in 07 and it was 08 when it went down to 200

Bolded: It took the PS2 8 1/2 years to cut to $99, so if MS followed the same pattern they'd be at $129.99.

Personally, I think they'll be cutting to $149.99, and perhaps they'll cut Kinect's price to $99. Should be enough to keep their momentum until 2013, when they could cut 99.99 and 49.99 before releasing their next console.

Yeah, I've had no reason to look into PS2 price cuts before, so when I saw that many it shocked me.

and wondered what the VGC community thinks when it comes to just MS is that all you care about?

MS is all I care about, I'm not obligated to make articles on Sony and Nintendo, or forum threads for that matter.

what about what the other two consoles are going to do why does it just have to be about MS only in here?

I don't care?

You are right about this, thanks for pointing it out

oh i didnt know MS is all you cared about i thought it was consoles sales in general, i dont care for certain consoles either but i do like reading or discussing about what they are all doing or about to do for further knowledge about console sales as a whole

well im the creator of the console and bundle pricing history that has failed to get picked up on this sales site so i know these things like the back of my hand

I would say Kinect needs a price cut more than the 360. I think MS waits for Sony to lower their their before they do anything.

Well, I'm a 360 fan (that much is obvious) and although I'll congratulate Nintendo and Sony when they do well, more so Sony because I think they deserve it, I'm not going to write articles or threads about it when it's beating 360. I do this for a hobby.

It's like asking someone to write an article on how their football team got thrashed, when they're not obligated too They just wouldn't lol.

So while sometimes it may seem like I'm rooting or enjoying low PS3/Wii sales (whenever that happens) it's not that, I'm just focusing on the 360 competing side of things. And when they do bad, I'm not going to.

That said my job is to do the weekly articles, and I'll do them no matter who's in front. I also have my gap charts up to date so they'll be updated even when the PS3 passes the 360.

Lots of room for cuts

dont forget bioth the consoles and kinect will get a reduction.

4GB kinect bundle $209 to $229 max.

4GB stand alone $129.99 to $149.99 max.

250GB kinect bundle $299 max

250GB stand alone $229 max

What do you think about Kinect? I can't see $129 in U.S, too low. So $99? but then a cut to £99 would put them at even levels, I dunno if people would be happy with that!! Possibly £80 in the UK?

Puts things in perspective.

It's pretty much the same for most people here.

I think Nintendo will drop the Wii to $149, and so Microsoft will cut the 360 to $149 a few months later to counter-act that.

Like you said, it won't be $99, or $129, and cutting by only $20 seems worthless to me, so $149 seems most likely, with Kinect down to $99 (if it isn't so already). By doing this, Microsoft should be able to keep up momentum through the holiday, and give 3DS and Wii a real run for their money.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
