A single game will usually not push much hardware sales.
Take PSP for example. In Japan, it gets on average 2 new popular releases per week. That kind of software releases drives console sales.

nintendo has got themselves in an rather not so good postion, Nintendo's consoles are know for Nintendo's games and with an major console with most likely Billions invested in, they aren't going to release fancy new hardware with no software so they most likely have majority of there teams on the next console. not good news for the 3DS
I also reguard the 3DS not as an new console but an hardware upgrade of the DS like the DSi.
Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong
From my perspective. I'm buying OoT when I get my 3Ds. I'm not buying a 3Ds for a game I beat 5 times 15 years ago.
I fully agree with the OP.
I do expect 3DS sales to increase starting June but mainly through a combination of games of which Ocarina of Time is just one. I don't expect 3DS sales to reach great levels before October or so. The real system sellers this year will be Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and 3D Mario. And probably a price drop around NGP launch. This and a batch of third party releases at the end of this year should be enough to make sales go up considerably.
Nintendo was pretty stupid when they decided not to launch with a single blockbuster title. And now we're in a slump until mid June or so. Then we'll see potential million sellers each month. Look at the first party releases: Zelda, Starfox, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, 3D Mario - probably in this order and with a one-game-per-month release schedule.

There are plenty of first party 3DS games announced already. Pretty much one million seller per month starting June (see my post).
As for the last sentence I agree. Nintendo needs to differentiate the 3DS from the DS.
Nintendo courting 3rd parties by not releasing their own so 3rd parties won't shyaway. But that plan backfired for the Wii and it's still the same for 3DS.
Ocarina of Time 3D will obviously increase the sales for 3~5 weeks as it's considered THE best game ever by many people but I don't think it will be extremely significant as some people say. We will see a crazy boost in sales when Mario Kart 3DS or Mario 3D is released.
Who the heck have you seen saying "it'll rise with Zelda"? Clearly a significant majority on here thinks otherwise. It'll boost for a few weeks and then return to lower levels 'till new software strikes. I've seen people say "it'll rise with software" and that I consider inevitable.

It'll probably boost up fairly well for two weeks initially because of the release dates being spread into two sales weeks, after that it might hold for a week or two but then fall back slowly.
