Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Dragon Quest X releasing next year

Last month, Yuji Horii told Nintendo Power that the Dragon Quest X development team is finishing the last parts of the game. He also said that an announcement about the title can be expected later this year.

Although Square Enix still isn’t saying much about the project, apparently series composer Koichi Sugiyama told fans at a concert event early today that Dragon Quest X will be released next year. That information hasn’t been confirmed just yet, so hopefully the announcement that Horii promised will come sooner rather than later.

maybe a pokemon release near 3ds release type of scenario?

Well we'll wait and see on this. But if it's true, it does mean it's staying on the Wii, as the first year is too soon for the other system (and will play on it anyway, as the OP pointed out).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'll be surprised if this doesn't become a launch title for 'Cafe' in Japan at this point.    Whether it gets the HD treatment or not is the question.   Obviously if it does it's exclusive to 'Cafe' or it could pull a Zelda: TP and have versions for both system.   Alternatively, it could be a Wii game that comes out with 'Cafe' and acts as a launch title but I find this the least likely Cafe owners will want HD and something that uses the novel new features of the system in some way.

Expect to see this at E3 with 'Cafe' is my prediction.  Pikmin 3 too.

I personally hope they just made this game a launch title for Project Cafe instead of a Wii or 3DS title.

I'd love to see a Dragon Quest game in HD. I probably won't pick up a 3DS for a long while so it would suck for me if it ends up being on there.

Considering the same thing happened to Dragon Quest IX, where Koichi Sugiyama confirmed it would be coming out in July of 2009 in Japan, I think this is a pretty solid lead.  But even without this hint, there's little time for them to release it anyway, considering the next Nintendo system has been confirmed for mid to late 2012.

Frankly I can't wait.  Especially since Yuji Horii already stated the game would be closer to the design and gameplay of Dragon Quest VIII.

In celebration, some music from the master Koichi Sugiyama.  I pray this game has orchestrated music as well.

In Japan especially it's pointless - Wii or not who's not going to buy the next main DQ title?

Sadly, most people in America.  Because its not Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts and reviewers will give it a generic 8.5 review because its not a popular series (and on Wii).  Thankfully, DQ is gaining a lot of popularity in Europe.

Also, I love that track too.  Probably my second favorite in the game.  Though Mysterious Tower is also amazing....

If it does release next year in Japan, I expect NoE/A to localise it very quickly to get it out before the Cafe launches

At least it's coming out this gen :D

OK at this point the whole "on the Wii thing" needs to stop. Reviewers have been giving quality Wii games good reviews. DQ IX has an 87 on Metacritic and DQ VIII has an 89. Those are really good scores for a JRPG, and for one that doesn't evolve much. I don't see DQ X being given generic reviews just because it's on the Wii...

What DQ X sells in the West is dependent on how well the game is marketed, the same with DQ IX.

1) I said the reason DQ doesn't sell well in America is because of its lack of marketing.  I just called it 'lack of popularity'.  DQIX got the most praise and sales of any DQ games in the west, because it got marketing.

2) All the of the Wii games that got an avg score of 9.0 or higher came out in the first 2 years (except Mario Galaxy 2).  The avg scores for Wii games, even popular ones deemed good by the general public like DCKR or Kirby's Epic Yarn, got an acg score under 9.0.  I'm not saying the Wii is a masterpiece and all its games deserve over a 9.0.  However, its obious that reviewers downscore their games because of a bias.  Mostly based on it having less graphical capabilities than the HD Consoles.  Some sites like IGN and GameTrailers have even stated this plainly in ther reviews.  I for one don't think Wii games should be compared to GTAIV or Assassins Creed.

3) Dragon Quest VIII and IX had the most advanancements in the series to date.  Even more than other major JRPG series (see Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Disgaea, etc).  And the series has made major advancements over the years, later copied by other RPGs.  Sure it doesn't look unique today.  But I bet that's because you're comparing what DQ did in 1989 or 1992 compared to RPGs that came out years later.  For its time, DQ games innovated a lot.  Its just like Mario, everything they do seeps into other JRPGs and becomes 'standard'.
