Forums - Sony - Has Sony notified you about your compromised info yet?

Why would they need the information written down? It's probably all on their hard drive ready to divided up and sold on the black market. That data could be mined for years. Having the names, addresses and personal information of 77 million accounts is probably worth millions of dollars, and that's without even directly thieving a single identity.

what?  your an idiot, everyone knows they had millions of post it notes sitting by their ps3 and when they hacked in they ran off to get a pen quick, but by the time they got back sony had shut down psn.

Has anyone had any phising scams sent or had their identity stolen? NO, bottom line is well people could see your info it wasn't their main objective and it was only there for like a few days, it's not a big deal and unless they have proof a hacker looked at your account info specifically it would do nothing but cause an unjustified panic

Just because they haven't done anything with the info doesn't mean they aren't.  It's less likely that they did it just to show they could or show a hole, it's much more likely they took the information for a specific reason.

It just completely amazes me that some people will so blindly defend the things they love.  You shouldn't run and get your pitch forks but you should definately be aware of the dangers there.

Many people use the same password for everything and someone knows that password and your email now.  Many of those people don't know that someone has that information.

You don't think this is a problem?

I'm not blindly defending it, there isn't a single confirmed case of anyone actually having the information written down, it's far more likely that seeing account info was just a side effect of what the intrusion was trying to accomplish and they don't actually have the info they just had the ability to see it which they may not even have been aware of

how is this proven?  if my identity gets stolen this year, who's to say how it was stolen?

unless they catch the crook and he tells me, i have no idea of knowing whether this was related to this Sony incedent or the thousands of other ways he could have gotten my info.

Thats the big picture.  Out fo the MILLIONS of people around the world this year that get their ID theft, who are tehy to BLAME.  people love to throw the blame on someone.    And what easier way that to say, I have a psn account. its sony's fault

Yes it is, and the fact that there isn't a single person claiming that yet, and if hackers stole info on 77 million people don't you think something would have come up by now?

Actually, there are quite a few people reporting suspicious activity in their accounts on neogaf.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

dude the news just reported this yesterday.  its like you expect thousands of poeple to NOTICE they have had their ID stolen in minutes.  it can take a long time before someone knows their ID is stolen, and hey have you also maybe thought that these hackers have not done anything yet.  You know wait till teh smoking gun clears before you use them.  maybe they are looking for buyers?  who knows.

but you can guarantee that throughout this year people will be blaming sony for their ID theft, regardless of what is factually correct or not

So what do you think they were trying to accomplish?

CC information, pirating psn games, bring psn down (if it was anon), outside chance corporate sabotage (anon gives a pretty good scapegoat good time to strike) something like that, personal info which you can't even do much with and half people don't even use their real name just seems like aiming really low there are easier ways to get someones name and adress

Not thousands, maybe 4-12 instead of 0, and it's not even like everyone uses their real name/address on psn either, and so far the only confirmed thing is the hackers having the ability to acess the info, I suppose theirs an outside chance that they are looking for buyers but again with everyone putting in random address and names it's not exactly top dollar stuff and thats assuming they were after it and assuming they had the means to copy 77 million accounts simialtaniously which I don't think either is the case

seriously?  you don't think people can do much with personal info?

lets say this guy doesn't know what to do with personal info. he can profit just by going to black market and saying "hey i have 70 million people's personal info, who wants it"  there are poeple that know very well how to profit from that info and would pay big dollars to get that big list.

we are talking millions here, not some petty pirated games.

i bet the amount of people putting in fake info is the minority

It's also reported the theft may have included purchase records. If so, that would make it very easy discriminate targets. Anyone who purchased something almost certainly entered their real identity.

The situation is so horrible that I find it hilarious..

But that is also because I only use PSn cards and no CC..

as i just said, the cc is not the big worry.

whats on your psn?  username/password?  you use that anywehre else?  you online banking, paypall, amazon, ect?

your real name?  date of birth?  address?  any of that stuff you ever put into you psn account?

which considering you posted that pic you should be aware of that, since cc is last on the list

Username is different, no online banking/paypall/amazon..   Real name and date birth and the address is changed;.(never bothered to change it);.
